Please Help me...I'm a verbally abused child!

My mom has been verbally abusing me for the last six years. It started when I was 13. I'll be 19 in a month. I think my mom is narcissistic. She locked me in the basement with no lights for hours on end when she wasn't working when I was a little kid while my sister who was a baby was running around doing whatever she wanted. I remember falling asleep and having her pull me up the stairs whenever my dad would come home.

I came to her when I was 13 and told her I thought I was schizophrenic. She told me to stop playing with her and to get out of her room. I developed depression after 8th grade and social anxiety when I was 17. I've had no help but I've recently found a close to home medical building I plan on secretly going to.

My mom has called me stupid and retarded for years and ignores whenever my sister does it. She even says to me at random times "If there's something wrong with you mentally, let me know".

Who can I talk to about this just to talk? Without cops being involved?

No offense, but your mom sounds like a complete bitch. It's terrible she talks to you the way she does. Get some psychiatric help ASAP. Nobody deserves to be treated this way.

If I were you, I would go to a trusted adult at your school if you know they won't contact the police. I say that because anyone that works for any K-12 licenced school in the United States must tell the police if necessary. I'm not sure verbal abuse would make the cops get involved though.

Other people like this could help too:
- extended family
- medical doctor
- psychiatrist
- church people
- trusted neighbors
- even though you don't want them to get involved, the police can also help a great deal especially if it becomes physical abuse that is intolerable.

I hope you get the help you need. No one should be treated like this.

You're almost ready to go out on your own, and you should no longer allow her to treat you with such disrespect and...Well, you can stand up to her now. You can't always let people like her trample over you, you have to defend yourself!
It's time you live life as you want to, don't take that crap from her or anyone else.
Believe me, the only ones who deserve respect are the ones who treat others with respect, which is clearly not happening. If it comes to physical abuse or parental neglect, you have the right to phone the police.
