for down there, its to check everything is OK. Feeling the testicles is mainly for lumps possibly to indicate testicular cancer (which 99.9999% of the time shouldn't be an issue!), and to check that you can pull your foreskin back OK (that it's not tight). Don't worry if you get a boner, it happens to most of us.

I think most teens get a physical for sports, so you can make sure you don't have any illnesses or injuries that could be worsened by physical activity.
My school is cool about sports physicals. I just had mine for the year. They have one night during the summer where all the athletes can get free physicals. Some doctors and nurses volunteer and they set up stations in the gym. So all the guys go in the locker room and strip down to boxers then go into the gym. Some nurses take your height and weight and blood pressure etc. Then you go to a station where they check your eye sight and your eyes. Then one where they check up your nose and down your throat and listen to your heart with the stethoscope. Then one where you have to drop your boxers and bend over and the doctor looks at your spine to make sure it is straight (not sure why you have to be naked for that one). Then one where you sit on a table and the doctor looks over arms and legs, feet, checks joints and reflexes. Then the one where you take off your boxers completely and first you stand while he does the cough check to see if you have a hernia and he feels your testicles to see if you have lumps then you lay down on a table still naked and he checks over your penis closely and pushes around on your abdomen. Then you have to take a bottle into the locker room and pee in it and a nurse sticks this strip of paper in and I guess if you have something wrong it turns a color. Then you get dressed and turn in your completed paperwork and you know you are healthy to play your sport.
