View Full Version : Happiest countries in the world?

After having a bunch of economical and political debates on here I want to discuss, which do you think is the happiest country in the world? Or the country with the happiest people. And please, the fact that a country is developed does not mean its people are uber-happy in fact it could mean otherwise.

I (sadly) think Venezuela is still the country with the happiest people, you could come up with counter arguments even though you probably haven't gone to Venezuela or interacted with Venezuelans. Seriously, the political situation has made humour flourish and despite the fact that toilet paper can't be found people still joke about the last time they wiped their bottom. Canada could have an easy second place.

Scandinavian countries tend to rank very highly when lists are compiled, but this year Australia was ranked first in a list made by the OECD: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/05/28/worlds-happiest-countries-2013-australia_n_3347347.html

Yeah however that is just for OECD countries, not worldwide.

I wouldn't trust any polls coming our of Venezula regarding happiness. I'm sure that Kim Jong Un would say North Korea's the happiest nation in the world; that doesn't mean he's right.

I think that scandanavians are very laid back, so it makes sense they'd be among the happiest. I think it's bad in the long run because eventually it's all gonna come crashing down, and they'll have work harder.

Oh, yes you should. Venezuelans find a joke out of everything and are extremely "laid back" even towards the crappiest situations out there. You have probably never been to Venezuela, going there would confirm it.

they only recently had a national emergency, they run out of toilet roll.... Australia is obviously the happiest however it could also be small European country

their country is BEAUTIFUL!

I agree that Australian are mostly all great, laid back happy people... But their country, beautiful? It has some beautiful parts, but most of its just deasert, and not the pretty kind.

I agree that the Venezuelans are funny, happy people! Though I haven't been there in about 4 years.

New Zealand's landscape is the complete oposite as Australia, every city exept 2 are coastal. There is no deasert, instead 97% of the country is covered in dense native bush haha. But the people are similar, though I would say that New Zealanders are even more 'kick back' then the ozzies, the biggest city has 1m people Haha, the whole clountry has a real family feel :p

Isn't that rather xenophobic? How can Australia 'obviously' be the happiest when you say that it could also be another country? It's like saying I'm 'obviously right but I could be wrong'.

I don't think that their is a happiest country in the world, sure some countries have higher GDP or better education but that doesn't unsure happiness, either does good weather

Australia has a lot of problems, about 60% of country has low water levels and is basically a no go, they've got the issue of urban sprawl and they've pretty much destroyed the Great barrier reef with over fishing
