Did I do the right thing?

Ok so there's this person I've liked for a while and he knows I like him. However he took advantage of that and started treating me like shit. I couldn't bring myself to be horrible back to him because I liked him too much. He called me a piece of shit amongst other things.

Well today I kind of snapped and told him that he's horrible and other stuff which contains a bit of explicit language. I feel better about myself for finally standing up to him but I'm not sure if it was the right thing to do. Was it? :S

We started dating several months ago and before, he had only girlfriend, so I was his little secret, he was too sweet and nice, and just everything positive, after he introduced me to his sister, I have no idea what happened, he changed 100% and I guess I stopped being his secret love,
I didn't take the shit for long, I told him I'd drop him if he continues to act like a F. idiot after I come back home from festival,

after I came back, he genuinely hugged me really tight, then I guess lightning struck him and he was back to his rude self, I couldn't stand that anymore, so ever since last Tuesday I'm done seeing him, either he grows up from being an egoistic prat or we can drop this, it's hurtful but we're not doormats, Connor! :)
