I'm trying to broaden my musical horizons, mainly rap. There is one song by Eminem that I really like - Not Afraid. First, any songs like that you could recommend? Then, what are some good rappers that don't glorify sex, drugs, etc. too much? Thanks in advance.

As an Eminem fan, I need to tell you to check out some of his older stuffl like Lose Yourself, When I'm Gone, Mockingbird, and literally like 15 others.

You should also look into 2pac and Biggie Smalls. I am positive that none of it is the infamous drugs, sex and money bullshit.

I'm not sure what rap would be appropriate for you to listen to, but Eminem's a pretty good artist. Childish Gambino and Macklemore are some rappers I like too. Hopefully that helped a little.

2pac is one, check out his songs: "Changes", "Keep Ya Head Up", "Do For Love", "Dear Mama"

Immortal Technique: "Caught in a hustle", "Leaving the Past", "You Never Know", "Dance With The Devil", "4th Branch", "Point Of No Return"

Biggie Smalls, "Juicy", "Suicidal Thoughts"

Nas: "Nas Is Like", "NY State Of Mind", "NY State of Mind Part 2", "Stillmatic Intro", "If I Ruled The World",

Old Kanye West(Before he became a asshole): "Homecoming", "Through The Wire", "Heard Em' Say"

Common: "Resurrection", "Testify"

Chino XL: "Wordsmith", "Nunca", "Kreep", "Riiot", "Why'd You Wanna Go There", "Cant Change Me", "Chianardo Dicaprio", "No Complex''.

Jamal: "Keep It Real"

Mobb Deep: "Survival Of The Fittest"

Outkast: "Ms Jackson", "So Fresh,So Clean"

I hope these help, the only thing I really listen to is rap, I also hate the "drugs, sex, guns" type rap too..Do check out Immortal Technique and Chino XL, if you like Eminem, you'll love both

Few tips before hand, stay away from radio mainstream rap like Lil Wayne,2 Chainz, Waka Flocka, Chief Keef, all garbage. Like I tell a lot of people who are just getting into rap, look to the older(Pre 2000) rap first, then work your way up, it's higher quality and actually has a message.

Like SouthsidePro said, stay away from current rap.

My recommendations:

Blac Haze - I Remember Mom
2Pac - It Ain't Easy
Funky Four Plus One - Rappin and Rocking the House
Dat Boy Grace - We Are One
Mase - Love U So
Mase - Cheat On You
Blac Haze - Let Me Holla At Cha
Nas - The World Is Yours
2Pac - Run Tha Streetz

Keep in mind a lot of the old stuff raps about drugs too... it's just not as glorified, in the case of some of them they regret taking them etc.

Yeah, like I don't mind talking about struggles with drugs after they get off 'em. That's what Eminem's "Not Afraid" is. I'll listen to those kinds of songs.
