What to say to a suicidal friend

Recently I saw on Facebook that my friend said he has attempted suicide and is currently depressed. I really want to say something to him but dont know what say. I already lost a friend to suicide last year and would be devastated if someone else from the same school I know committed suicide. The thing is that we are not that close of friends to begin with, we only talk at school and nothing more and given that we are on summer break I havent talked to him since then, But I still consider him my friend since I dont have many friends to talk to at school besides him. So whats the best thing that I can say to him.

Tell him to look outside at nature, and to forgot all of the baggage we add to life. Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem

Tell him to take a walk in the woods, that what I do..... It helps

Just letting him know that you'll be there for him is really the best thing you can do. Maybe try asking him if he wants to talk about it and try to urge him not to do it again. But don't overreact or be pushy about asking or saying anything because he's most likely still not emotionally stable. He obviously sounds like he needs a good friend who will help him through a hard time - and that person can be you.
