Not weird at all, many people compare which their friends, its not big deal. As for being hard, I can't see how it would make you look gay for each other, its normal to be hard round others that are naked during teenage years, some grow out of it at 13, other not until like 25, it varies, its causes by hormones.

No it's normal to compare, and ever time I've compared we've been hard cos we were comparing boners. School showers is a bit of a different location, most people do it in there rooms, but I've done stuff in the school change rooms though, so to me it's a normal place.
And i don't think it makes you gay, it's just being curious and having fun with a mate.
