Ok... all my life i have been reasonably fat, not so fat its hard to look at. But just a normal kinda fat, fat enough to bug me.

For years i have been trying to lose weight, before i hit puberty i couldnt do it. After school i would just come home and eat, mainly because of boredom. I put on allot of weight, and last yr people started to comment how i had lost weight. i didnt realise, maybe because of puberty im not sure.

Anyway, since then i have put on more weight, every summer holidays i promise myself that when school starts up again i will be slim and fit. I keep putting it off. After xmas, after new yrs, next week, tomorrow... but it never f'n happens!

Makes me want to go ano but my family generally eat toghether. Like if i dont eat brekky someone will realise.

I am fat, i want to go to the beach with my girlfriend, but i am embarrassed. I am sick of eating too much junk!

I NEED motivation, something that will get me the way i want to be. Can someone please help? anyone who has lost weight in the past, what did you use as motivation other then looking discusting?

cheers
J

Well, a few things will help.

Follow the Food Guide Pyramid the best you can. Get lots of excercise, maybe try a sport. Start jogging regularly. Eat all 3 meals with 1 or 2 snacks throughout the day. BELIEVE! Believe you can lose the weight with all of these things, and I can almost guarantee over a few months, youll be thinner and healthier.

Try to get your family/friends involved. Let them help you with your goal. Its easier to succeed with someone else than alone. Good luck!

PS. As a child, I wasnt really that thin, but I played basketball and ran a lot and Ive gotten a lot healthier. Sure Im 130 pounds and Im only 13. But Im healthy, I can run fast without getting too tired, my eating habits are better, and Im a lot stronger than I was.

The key is exercise and the right diet, DONT STARVE YOURSELF all it does is makes it worse, and over all just make healthy eating choices like fruit of candy and water over soda you do fine if you set your mind to it!

Everything you said should be motivation enough. Just stick to it. We can't force you. All those times you failed were your fault because you didn't force yourself to do it. It's not like someone's going to be at your back with a whip. It's a self-motivation thing.

Motivation? Sounds like you've got that. It's self discipline you need!

Dieting is hard, because it's actually a lifestyle change. In order to get the weight off and keep it off, you have to readjust many/most/all of your prior eating habits, and that's really hard!

But, you can do it if you go slowly and incorporate them gradually into your life. Like any major change, it takes time to adjust to and to get used to. Start by looking at a healthy diet, and incorporate those foods into your diet, in substitute for the crappy stuff you now eat.

The key is time, and patience. This will take time, it won't happen right away, crash diets don't work. But, with time and diligence (and some exercise, too), you can lose the weight. Just stay with it.

your motivation should be to try and be healthy and look great in that swimsuit! its good to set mini goals. you need to try an work on your self esteem so you will be happy, it will come with time. just work on your portions and work out as much as possible and you will be on the beach before you know it

thanks for all your help,
i decided a good way for exercise is to ride my bike everywhere. I love cruising on my lowrider and its twice the amount of work as a normal bike.

Im trying not to make it hell obvious, because i find it embarrassing admitting to my family im trying to lose weight (i dno why it just is), but when at movies and stuff with mates what should i do? its not like im going to go get a salad or something when they r stuffing their faces with hj's.

also, do you think girls normally mind if your a bit big, it doesnt show in my face, arms or legs, just a bit of flubber on ma belly. I figure they would have the same opinion as guys

What's wrong with your family, are they overweight, too?

Now about going out with your friends, its ok to eat something out, as long as you don't overdo it. You don't necessarily have to order a salad everutime you go out, but be smart about what you order. Eat something that can do the less amount of damage and don't eat as much as you usually do. Don't eat the entire thing. Then the next day excercise a little longer than normal and then you should be ok.

The truth is a lot of girls will mind, but some won't. Just to be completely honest being unhealthy and not taking good care of yourself isn't very attractive. Losing weight can change that and you'll look so much better.

If girls can't motivate with you to stick with it, then you must look at the future. If you want to continue the way you've been going the weight packed on will only increase and make it even harder to lose weight. Do you want to die of a heart attack at 50, or have a lot of health problems in the future that will be very costly? Or possibly get a stroke which can result in not being able to move one side of your body so you can't walk? These are a few of many real things that can happen and if a much shorter life expectancy can't motivate you I don't know what else can.

You have to rethink your priorities and see that what your friends or family think of you is very minuscule compared to your health and future.

Thanks for coming back to continue to talk.

There's sometimes this vulnerability about showing others (like family, friends) that you're unhappy/uncomfortble about something about yourself. That's probably another issue.

I think bike riding is great exercise and great fun. Good onya for doing that! Just stay with it, and maybe focus on the 'fun' part so it doesn't become a chore.

When you're in the movies, you can take maybe a bit of candy, although you probably wouldn't enjoy it anyway, right? You're trying to lose weight and candy is empty calories. And, you're doing it not so much as the occaisional treat in moderation, but out of peer pressure, that nagging concern of what others will think of you. It might be better to pass. They won't mind, and if you decide to indulge a bit at some other point, it will at least be a REAL treat.

Some girls will mind that you're a bit overweight, some won't, I don't know if there's a universal about this. But, regardless, remember that your current weight is temporary! Soon, you'll be buff and hunky!

Stick to the diet and biking, don't get discouraged, it takes time to change your eating and exercising habits and then have your body's metabolism respond. But it will.

And good for you for trying to improve yourself.

yeh sorry no one replied at the start so i left it for a while and didnt get on the forum cos i was busy for a bit.

as for the girls thing, i think they wud be just like a guys view, if they are nice enough and easy to talk to, you dont really care that much if they r a bit overweight (although most of it is hidden). But when its over thats the first thing your going to insult them about if its a fight. Its pretty strange.

And my parents are kinda normal, mum had 4 kids n she isnt perfect, dad just took up drinking beer on a boat so hes gettin a bit bigger. But my brother is normal, and my older sister cant get fat no matter how hard she trys, and my little sis is kinda normal too.... so i think i will pretty much look like my brother if i lost the weight.

And thanks again for all the support, its good to have a forum like this to tell randoms your secret thoughts about youself n stuff
