First of all, a sorry if this is in the wrong section.

For a while now I've noticed a small bump on the back of head. I don't really had much info to give apart from touching it doesn't hurt and I can sort of move it side to side like a protruding vein on the back of your hand.

Any idea what it could be?

It's probably just a cyst.

Is that bad?

If it is a cyst it isn't bad unless it grows large enough to cause pressure. There are different treatments for a cyst but thr most effective is to cause it to burst. I used to have one on my wrist and I fell down on it and it burst and it hasnt cone back since.

How do I identify a cyst?

Where is it on the back of your head? Is it more to the right or left? If it's to the right or left, feel in the exact same place on the other side. There are two lymph nodes in the back of your head just above your neck, and if it doesn't hurt then you're fine (:. If it hurts, though, it could mean you have a sinus infection or open wound that is infected around the swollen lymph node.

If it was a cyst, it would probably be painful whether you touch it or not. Cysts are PAINFUL. If you had one, you would probably know.

Hope this helps,
Amy

I can sort of make something else out on the other side, although it's much much shorter. And it doesn't hurt.

In your first post you said that the bump doesn't hurt. Now it does?

If only one lymph node hurts, it could be a sign on an infection on that side of the head / neck. The most likely cause would be a sinus or ear infection.

Have you had a fever lately? Sore throat in the morning that fades during the day?

If yes try clearing your sinuses by draining them with a saline salt mix. You can buy it at about any store with a pharmacy section. Should be 10-20$ USD depending on brand. I had to use after sinus surgery. It's suggested you do it daily until the infection clears. If you're prone the sinus infections you should do it at least once every day anyway. It really does help. Doesn't hurt, but the first time is a little uncomfortable. You get used to it though.

If it's an ear infection, just press lightly on the ear on the side with the bump. If it hurts it could be an infection.

If the bump doesn't go away, I would suggest going ti see your doctor.

Hope this helps,
Amy

Sorry. I must have read wrong.

From what I'm reading is sounds like a lymph node. Everyone has them, and it's nothing to be worried about. It's completely normal (:. If it was sore, that would be different. But I'm sure you're fine.
