how to properly smoke a joint?

Hi so the other day, I smoked weed for the first time. I didn't get high though, I don't think the smoke went into my lungs properly. Any advice on how to make sure the smoke goes down to your lungs?

Haha most people mess up the first time, it's somewhat hard to explain. But do not puff out your cheeks, instead take a deep breath while inhaling the smoke to get it down into your lungs, hold for a few seconds and let out.
