View Full Version : Not safe any more?

I'm shocked how many people post on here claiming they regularly have unprotected sex. Do schools not teach about these things any more, or do you guys just not care so much? Or is it just as simple as confusion what does/does not count as 'protection' (I.E. girl on pill is still protected sex, at least against pregnancy)
Now I know I'm no angel, but when I was growing up I was taught safe sex or no sex. I definitely wouldn't have wanted to risk a kid when I was 14 :P Is this now so much taboo for schools and/or parents to discuss?

I have only had unprotected sex (the pill but no condom) once and after a very terrifying pregnancy scare I will never do it again.
Always be on the pill (or some other form of female contraception) and always use a condom.
Make sure the condom fits well so that there will be no leakage.

And why do you say that?
It's the internet, people say things that shouldn't always be taken seriously or as truth.

Exactly this,
The internet is a vast place and people will lie and say things that aren't exactly true. I mean the majority of the VT population apparently at the age of 13 have 7 inch penis, now I'm not saying it isn't possible but its not exactly the norm. All I'm saying is, you need to take what you read on VT with a pinch of salt because people aren't who they say they are and quite often will lie or bend the truth slightly.

I'm not sure if you're saying that I might not be telling the truth or the op.
I'm serious when I say that contraception is important.
My best friend who was on the pill fell pregnant and now she is having her baby in five weeks.
The pill alone is not 100% effective or reliable.

I'm not saying anyone is not telling the truth, I merely saying that OP has stated she has seen many people not using contraception and having unprotected sex. I'm was saying that when you browse VT you've got to take what you read with a pinch of salt because people will lie and say they've had all kinds of crazy sex and they've had threesomes and all that shit. I'm not saying anyone is lying and I'm not accusing anyone of lying, but I am saying that when you read VT you do need to take what you read with a pinch of salt as lying is easy over the internet.

You also have to take into consideration that VT doesn't exactly appeal to "the norm" in any sense of the word. If anything, we're just a bunch of random hormonal teenagers trying to sort out our issues.
That being said, it's very well possible that most of the users on VT are telling the truth. And if not, then that's really their problem.
Back to the OP, I think it's just that people don't care as much as they should.

I think people are still taught it but very one has the "Oh I won't worry about protection, its wont happen to me" attitude and think that the logic of pregnancy doesn't apply to them. That being said, repeating what others have said, many people lie about it so it probably doesn't happen as much as people say. But you make a very good point.

To be honest I never wear a condom with my gf, but she's on the pill and it is over 99% effective so...

The people telling lies aren't fools, the ones who believe them are.
Whoever feels ashamed to go buy condoms isn't ready to have sex.
I don't know about boys but girls tend to lie either to attract attention either to feel better about their "wonderful" lives.
On this site, there are threads that exclusively talk about puberty and sexual life. Of course not anyone is telling the truth.
This is the internet, and this site is no exception.

I'm on the shot, and have a photo copy of the disease report of all the partners I'm regularly with. If they refuse to get it done, and show me, I refuse to do anything. I also try to avoid cold sores / fever blisters / canker sores when/if the person has an outbreak.

Okay I understand what you're all saying now.
But I really don't see the point in lying. People on the internet aren't going to care about the size of your dick or anything.

Agreed. Katie, some people just see the need to try and be ultra clever and end up looking like complete turds !

I don't really believe about fifty-percent of the people on here. Most take the idea of sex so lightly around here, not to say the people that do are liars, some are pretty secure with themselves and are mature enough to know. The others, 13/14 year old's talking about having 19 bfs/gfs and experimenting and all this, I wouldn't believe.
School does still teach it. But instead of promoting abstinence, I think they now promote safe-sex now by handing out free precautions and stuff.

You hit it right on there. I've always been taught that at home. If you're too embarrassed about anything, you're not ready for it.

I agree with you all, especial Snookers. If you're too shy/embarrased, etc to seek contraception (whatever your chosen method) then you're not ready for sex.
I do still wonder if people are confusing sex without condom as unprotected sex. I know condoms protect against STD/STIs, but as Sammy points out if you know your partners are clean, thats not an issue. There are plenty of other methods of contraception (protected sex), such as the shot (Sammy) and the pill (Jakey's gf), but I find that odd if people dont equate those methods to protected/safe sex. Or are there really a bunch of wanna be teen moms and dads out there?

Agree with Derri. Sadly -- schools promote Abstinence Only which doesn't touch on birth control options and unless teens have the resources to get more detailed sex-ed -- they may be less careful. As to whether it's common that people strive to have sex without a condom -- don't know. My older sister tells me she has friends that think the pill is enough and don't use condoms..

I think pill is enough... if you trust/love the person you're with. I wouldn't go condom-less with just any girl. So long as taken properly and that then its far more effective than condom only (but I understand both is kinda better)
I agree, Abstinence Only causes so many issues. I've heard such myths as 'cant get pregnant 1st time' or 'its ok so long as you pull out' :/

I have always used some kind of protection before I don't use I make sure she is on the pill and is ok with everything and I sometimes use spermicide during bareback just in case I also get tested every so often as well.

Most people probably do lie to feel as if their "impressing" someone. You're not impressing anyone. I usually don't believe many people on here. It's the Internet, what are you gonna tell is the truth and isn't?
