Does hairspray on cuts make it puffy?

I was reading this book Cut (by the way amazing book, beautifully written and heart wrenching, i recommend) and one of the girls Callies meet is a cutter also and recommends that when you cut you spray it ith hairspary to make it all puffy as seen is photos. Is that true?

I've worn through 2 copies of that book in the last 5 years. Yes it's true, but its not a good idea. I used to do it all the time and my cuts would get infected and bleed for weeks at a time. Now that I've stopped cutting, I have so much damaged skin that I doubt my scars will ever go away. Don't do it.
