Hi! I'm turning 16 on Sunday, and will be driving on Monday. I am a little nervous because it's the first time on the road, but I've driven around parking lots so I know how to maneuver the car. Does anyone have any advice or tips for the fist couple times? Thanks!

I assume someone will be with you in the car? Best thing is to go to somewhere empty and if possible (quiet road), familiar with you (ie close to home or somewhere you have been a lot so you know the surroundings). Just keep calm and don't try and rush anything.

Start off in an empty parking lot and take it easy. Once you start driving you'll get the hang of it real quick. Good luck, brah!

I learned on a dirt road. Find a dirt road with few or no houses on it. The loose gravel/dirt makes you learn to correct for mistakes on pavement. Not to mention they're fun to drift on.

It's not so bad. Just try to be very calm. Don't stress.

dirt is good to learn on, because when you mess up, it is forgiving and wont destroy vehicles.

You'll be fine, just remember to start slowly and then gain confidence.

You will be fine. I recently started driving a few weeks ago. I was nervous at the start but after a day of driving you will be fine. Best part about getting your lisence is being able to explore

Dont Speed, keep 2 hands on the wheel. Brake slowly, slow down. Remain calm. Stop at stop signs/stop lights. Dont flip off the person next to you. Oh, and USE YOUR DIRECTIONAL/BLINKER....people who dont use their directional dont make me to happy...

Just take it casually. Driving is a task, but it shouldn't be a chore. Don't be like me where you're grasping onto the steering wheel for dear life and freaking out :P

You get the hang of it pretty fast.

P.S: taking a ford expedition lights and sirens to an assault with a machette is easier than you might think haha.

Just like everyone says...stay calm and it will become easier as time goes by :) I only have a permit but I love driving every chance I get!

Don't worry! Driving is one of the easiest things to do! I got my temps at 15 1/2 and I was scared to death when my dad told me I'd be driving home. However, after literally a minute I got the hang of it and it just came naturally. Start on a nice clear street and go from there!

When on the road, look far ahead. This will stop the natural habit of veering either way on the road.

Oh and when you're turning, double check to make sure there aren't any cars. Look left, right, left.

Oh jesus Christ. I don't know how people stand keeping to 2 hands on the wheel at all times. That drives me insane

It's easy bro. Just relax and before you know it it will be as easy as walking. Are you learning in an auto or stick?

I learned to drive in a field. It's pretty hard to run into anything but groundhog holes out there. And the gas is touchy. Don't floor it or you will fly.
