why the hate on kik in the recent announcement? and eventhough I dont use it whats wrong with it and is sharing via pm allowed?

Kik is used simply for bad reasons which is exchanging pictures which are in all likley hood illegal. I've never heard someone say oh yes I'm going to have a friendly chat on Kik, it's usually members saying 'I'm horny kik me''

It's a nuisance to deal with as a staff member, we've got a role to protect people on here, and Kik is a risk.

KIK is not allowed to be shared for the reasons Harry said, but it's also a texting app. No texting app is allowed whether it requires the exchange of phone numbers or not. It's our job to keep members as safe as we can and I feel that if we allow KIK to be shared that we're failing at that. You can share it over PM -- if you noticed I did not say PM in the announcement -- that is the one place where sharing those sensitive details is okay under your own discretion, however I would advise against it seeing as you can never tell who is really who online.

Anyway, I'm confused a bit on it. What exactly justifies sharing Tumblr links? An SFW blog might not be SFW a week from now. Then it's sharing NSFW content, but the mods checked the blog a week ago and it was okay then, but not now.

As a tumblr user myself, who's blog is not always SFW, I've made the decision not to share my blog on VT. I had to make this decision a while ago when I realized that the link I shared on VT may at times contain images that are not VT appropriate, so I stopped sharing it. That's a decision that users will also have to make -- I've seen far too many blogs containing self harm and other explicit photos being posted, whether that is the blogs actual niche or not. I understand that tumblr is a very popular site -- I use it myself as I said -- and I don't want to have to see it be restricted further, so a line needs to be drawn somewhere.

Kik has a massive social stigma attached to it. Therefore most people that advertise theirs are branded as sexters, really. It's practically identical to sharing your phone number on the web, and that announcement should have been made sooner. It's as if the majority of P101 members that advertise kik haven't been taught basic internet safety, and that the staff have to make it unbelievably apparent for people to get the message.

I was thinking this same exact thing but listening to these admins and mods and what not give me the since that it's to big of a risk and a nuisance to deal with
