Party Poison
July 3rd, 2013, 02:10 AM
Hi all. A big problem I have with self harm is trying to hide it from my friends, family, and other people. Yes, I know I should get help, all that. But. I thought I would post a thread on ways to hide it if you are like me and still not ready to put yourself out there like that and you are embarrassed by it.
Arms
Arm warmers, long sleeves, jackets, chunky bracelets, those big rubber bracelets, wristbands.
Scars- cover them up with liquid foundation. Works for me well- as long as you match it with your skin tone.
Legs
Pants, leggings, high socks. Generally easier to cover up.
Tips for summer time
Wear a light jacket with a light tank top underneath. Less hot.
If you know you are going swimming (party, family event) you can either avoid it (like I do many times) or stop a couple weeks in advance and cover up with the liquid foundation.
The infamous excuses
If someone questions you wearing a jacket or pants, just tell them you feel completely comfortable the way you are dressed. They'll leave you alone. If someone happens to see "something" just say you accidentally scraped yourself, tried to climb a tree (and it went wrong)... Be creative but try to stay realistic! Remember to keep your cool when people "pester" you. They're only doing it because they actually care.
Don't lose your shit over this post
I am in absolutely NO WAY trying to promote people to cover it up. I know there are people like me who do not feel comfortable with it, and are seeking ways to help themselves and hide it from their loved ones in fear of hurting them as much as we hurt ourselves, maybe even more. I hope at least one of these tips can be used by you.
