I remember my first time. At my grandfather's land. Crew cab dually with a 32 foot gooseneck hooked up. Sat in dad's lap. Started diving with dad in the passenger seat on the farm at 11 or 12. That's when I finally got big enough to reach the pedals in such a big truck. I'm sure all the country and farm/ranch kids will chime in here!
Post up your storys! When did you first drive?

My first time actually driving was at 16, learning from the driving instructor in order to my permit. When I was like 3 or 4, my dad let me steer while he used the medals, but that doesn't count.

I learned to drive automatic cars about 3 months ago when I was still 14. I will learn to drive manual probably in a few months from now.

I always drove automatics. One thing that helped me learn was the car my mom had when I was 7-13 was a stick. When I was about 12 I was finally old enough to sit up front. I would sit in the passenger seat and shift while my mom ran the clutch. That helped me learn to listen for the motor RPM and learn to shift the sweet spots. I learned to run the clutch at 14 in my brothers truck. We hit some dirt roads with a bunch of stop signs and that's how I learned. You can hit the highway but you want somewhere that's got lots of stop signs because you almost never shift on the highways. Learning to stop and go is the way to learn clutch. Start out with shifting from the shotgun seat. Makes it WAY easier to learn the clutch when you aren't trying to learn two things at once (shifting and clutching)

I remember practicing on drive on beaches when I was 7, and I would practice in the desert when I was also young. BUT I really only started practicing on roads when I was 15/16 and I'm getting my permit on the 12th :)
I've practiced on both manual and automatic cars:
- '02 Hyundai Elantra
- '06 Hyundai Santa Fe
- '00 Jeep Grand Cherokee
- '07 Chevrolet Suburban
- '13 Nissan LEAF

I started at 15, in my mom's car. And got my license at 16. I can't do manual. I don't know why, I've tried over and over again, and I just can't do it.

I learned a riding mower at about 7. A few weeks later I learned to drive the tractor. ..3 months later I drove that dually I mentioned with the gooseneck. It's nice to know I'm not the only country one on here that grew up that way.

You aren't anymore! I miss the farm life. Drought put us out. I remember all the trailers. The stacks of hay by the barn, the muddy 4x4 in the driveway, the feed sack smell in dad's truck, the tools as tall as I was, the sound of a loud tractor. the fences we'd fix. I miss that. Now we just have our 2 horses and about 5 acres with our two Labradors.
