View Full Version : Curiosity made me do it

Hey, well...first of all i must say that I am a very curious person. I am also going into med school so the scientific side of me finally made me do it.
Well i have had a friend who used to cut herself, she said it helped her deal with the pain. I never knew how it felt like, even though i know the whole chemical process that occurs in our bodies.
One day the curiosity got the best of me and i went to the kitchen, found my mothers ceramic knife, got it next to the back of my left hand and started to slide the knife, slowly and gently, and then, a sudden movement and the first cut was made. It was not too deep, but i felt the pain, and it wasnt very pleasant. I kept on doing the same thing over and over again. When i had 5 cuts on my hand i started to feel really calm and happy, so i carried on with the task.
By the time i forced myself to stop i had done 19 cuts on the back of my hand, it was bleeding like hell so i stopped the bleeding and covered the wounds.
Sometimes, when i go to the kitchen i am tempted to make a cut, but i can, with some effort, take that idea out of my head. Even though i wasn't depressed or anything, it's really addictive, and i now understand what you people mean :)

No actually I don't think you understand how we people feel. We don't cut to see how it will be, most of us started because we didn't know what else to do, because everything was too much and we didn't know how to deal/handle with all of that.
People here struggle so much with it, we count every day we don't cut, we deal with real addiction. You cut once out of curiosity and you think you undestand us...well I don't think so buddy.

Agreed. This is not a game dude nor should it be taken lightly. If you are in med school or want to take it you should know how awful and dangerous cutting can be. I suggest you never do it again. EVER!

That was totally irresponsible as a person in med school to try it out of "curiosity". Not to say that it's kind of terrible to find out what it's like when a friend does it, how would she have felt if she knew that u done it because of curiosity when she might have done it because of struggles in her life?
Don't do it again.

This is a really triggering post.
I don't think you have any idea what we feel. You shouldn't have done it out of curiosity, and you have no idea about what "chemical processes" happen. You're not addicted or finding it addicting, you're just pretending like you do, but you don't.
It was really irresponsible what you did. You can't tell your friend that you tried it out of curiosity for her. Curiosity killed the cat, or in this case: cut.

Yeah, some people are very much curious and they like to experiment a lot with their lives. I wonder why a med student has not anything much to think and be curious about rather than to experience the feeling of cut? I guess, he's going to be too curious to rip open a person at an OT, just to see how it feels.

I don't understand the point of this post.
This is something that you shouldn't take lightly or experiment with. It's dangerous. That was not a wise thing to do.
I hope your cuts heal soon and you have the sense to never do it again.

It was definitely a ridiculous thing to do. (And by the way, winchester,I love your profile pic)

I'm sorry, I just don't understand why you'd be curious about it. You're a med student, so you should know some basics about how it's dangerous and unhealthy.
Just please don't do it again. x

I don't think you get us at all. You cut once because you were curious and now you think you get why other people do it? It's an addiction. It's something we are compelled to do because it's the only way to take the pain away. No matter how small the reason we do it is. I'm not quite understanding what compelled your fascination with it but I truly hope your curiosity doesn't bring out an addiction to continue it.
