This is just a continuation of BrittishBoy's Best countries post, because I really liked it, and I learnt alot about other countries!
So what do you think are the best and worst countries and what one do you think is the freest. I've coarse everyone is going to be patriotic, so explain your answers (:
Personally I think New Zealand is the best country in the world
-it is officially the most free
-it's über green :p
-nuclear free
-great people
-great weather
^someone should give me something that is wrong with nz :p
And I like many other people, do not like North Korea, not the country but the government

it depends on what you like! but I agree this will turn in to another nationalist debate and probably a freedom vs communism debate:P but for example I love Australia because of its many beautiful cities! I love America for similar reasons, I love Britain because its my home country but not as much as Australia, I dislike China because of acid rain and North Korea because its a dictatorship! see what I mean?

The same could be said about many industrailing countries such as Brazil or Mexico. We had smog back in the 1800's which caused a lot of people to leave London. Acid rain can also be caused by many natural events such as the nitrogen cycle. It's rather narrow minded to dislike china because they have acid rain

"It's officially the most free"?
1) I'm pretty sure North Korea is also "officially" the most free. That doesn't mean it is.
2) Nuclear free means you can't defend yourself in case another country attacks you. It threatens your sovereignty.
3) I'm sure America has at least 100 times the amount of trees you have. We're certainly greener.
And, as much as I hate to break it to you, but America is the greatest country. I know I sound kinda of it, but the facts don't lie. We dominate economically, technologically, culturally, and militarily. And for the most part, our possession of this power has made the world a better place. Okay well on your point 1) New Zealand has been voted the most free country, infact even American newspapers published the story.
Point one does not stand
2) you think that having Neuclear weapons make your country safe?! No they only exclamate the theory of M.A.D. New Zealand doesn't need Neuclear weapons, If someone made was on us they would never be able to take the country, unless they made a line of troupes and Walked the length of the country... The total population would go bush, and in New Zealand only like 1 percent of the land is industrialised. So how would Neuclear weapons help?
Oh and also, New zealand doesn't have any enemy nations...
Point 2 does not stand
Point 3)
Well I'm not sure you understand the concept of 'green'. The fact that America had more trees, does not make it more 'green', because if its millions of cars, Neuclear power, and huge consumption. It is less 'green' then New Zealand.
At no point did I ask you what country is Greatest, I asked you what country was best. There is a difference. I would also question Americas true culture as the Americans did almost wipe out the native culture, where as in nz, the native culture still stands.
P.s I fail to understand how America is the greates country, when it already owed over a trillion dollars to china, and are not succeeding in paying it back as they are earning a negative amount.
And we're plenty green. Look at America from Google Earth!

2) New Zealand doesn't have any enemies? Give me a break. Aren't you like best friends with Britian? If your part of the commonwealth, Britians enemies probably also hate you.
3) Whatever, I'm not going to argue how all the green energy subsides we have make us so great.
4) Even if we may owe $1 Trillion to China, our GDP is three times their's with about a quarter of the people, and our per capita GDP is among the highest of developed nations, once was the highest. And like I said, we dominate economically, militarily, culturally, and scientifically, and our net impact on the world with this power is very positive. For example, it is projected about a billion people are alive today because of Norman Borlaug, and American scientist that invented miracle crops.

okay, well as i mentioned earlier, just because america has a large army does not make it the best country. Scientifically new zealand too has had great break throughs, and for a tiny country it sure has made its mark.

You are right about this. I don't think I've ever been in a history museum in all of the Great Northwest or Alaska that hasn't had plenty of Native American exhibits.
And in Alaska especially, the prescense of Afabaskan and Eskimo culture is very high just walking through downtown Fairbanks.

Strongest economy? Ha! The economy is lingering and awaiting its fate at the hands of those who are compulsively making it fall. Strongest military? Why would that make it the greatest nation? All the military does is wage wars and occupy countries.
The US is missing something called CULTURE, gringos have absolutely no culture, nor do they have international view. And why do you say US #1? Because it is the only country most people from the US have been in.
You have no idea what I'm saying, do you? Of course not. That's not the point of our propaganda-based former isolationist weltanshauung at all. Certainly not. It's just an rather stupid idea to keep us here and to keep immigrants like my parents and all my neighbours coming in to the US.

We have the strongest military, the strongest economy, have invented most of the great modern inventions, and we dominate the cultural scene...what makes you say that we aren't? And if not us, who is?
No one. But you're too "patriotic" and "logical" to think otherwise.
You think those actually matter? It's what is happening inside this country is what brings it down, so who gives a fuck what we look like with our "badass" military. That doesn't make us great, it makes us assholes.
There is no evidence to support that America is the greatest country in the world, or for any other country for that matter. We’re 7th in literacy, 27th in math, 22nd in science, 49th in life expectancy, 178th in infant mortality, 3rd in median household income, Number 4 in labor force and Number 4 in exports. We lead the world in only three categories: Number of incarcerated citizens per capita, number of adults who believe angels are real, and defense spending where we spend more than the next 26 countries combined, 25 of whom are allies.
Obesity has been declared to be a "disease", and there is a huge minority in this country that flat out believes that global warming is a myth, while they believe in some half-assed fairy tale about some old fucker on a boat.
So don't fucking tell me that America is the greatest country in the fucking world, because I'm telling you right now that if the USA were a person, the last thing you could expect is for the sun to shine out its ass.
That abhorrent mentality is nothing but pure ignorance, and I despise it.

Anyone who likes his homeland a bit is like 'why did he say that?' when someone says that his is bad. I am not a kind of guy who will insult you for saying that Serbia has some major flaws, since it does, but I find irrational disliking immature (ie. I hate X just because he is there). But in all honesty, there is no best or greatest countries, all of them are flawed.

I never said that cultures must be ancient, I simply state that cultures that have existed over hunderds of years give more character to a country then young culture. All country's have a young vaulter like America, but not all country's have an aged culture, well actually, most countries do excepting a few... Including America
You said America had no culture then cited multiple nouns with the epithet "ancient" attached to them. If this isn't claiming one culture is superior to another simply by virtue of it being older, I don't know what is.
What is certain is that American culture is unprecedented in scale, complexity and diffusion : claiming anything else is disregarding facts.

Let me ask you this: How did this supposed nation of idiots happen to invent automatic transmission, the artificial pacemaker, the cash register, credit cards, the floppy disk, GPS (global positioning system), industrial robotics, denim jeans, the Internet, the laser, the microwave oven , nylon , the particle accelerator , the personal computer, the taser, birth control, television, the videotape, zippers, the cotton gin, the atomic bomb, carbon dating, the telephone, the light bulb, air conditioning , the barcode, the Solar cell, assembly line production, fast food, the air bag, and the microwave oven, to name a few? Can you produce a country that can even rival half of these inventions?
These our countries test results may look daunting. But that's because they "track" their students; the test results we see are only their top tier. And these country's are just emerging: The US historically has been number one in educating the masses.
As for the global warming thing, that's an irrelevant controversial political issue that doesn't at all reflect on a nations intelligence. In fact, a report just came out a couple months ago that said the Earth had cooled down, I read in the Wall Street Journal. So I don't read to much into it and realize we don't really no for sure either way, and figure that regardless of what's happening, we can't control mother nature. The US isn't that powerful!
In short, I guess per capita we aren't the best, but among the large nations we totally are. You think we score better then China, Brazil, India, Mexico, Indonesia or Russia in any of those stats you named?

Ahhh, countries! :) Well, In my opinion the best? Well, tbh I like most European Countries, mainly because they are all have unique cultures and languages...and the scenery is amazing...and they don't really have INSANE governments.
I have always thought that Japan is amazing and unique as well but I don't know much about their government system but I guess they aren't really at war right now so that's good. They have a really good healthcare system, culture, education and landscape!
I would LOVE to live in the pacific so that's another plus.
Previously, I thought that the USA would be a lovely place to live, especially New York but having visited the country recently I doubt I ever want to live in such a country. They have poor healthcare, a lot of poor people and okay education. They don't have an interesting history, they have ZERO culture and their government is a joke. All I saw, everywhere I went was Starbucks. It really is a great symbol of America. Maybe if the states dissolved into mini countries with their own individual characteristics it would be better?:) Also I dislike the way they treat other countries as a possible threat the whole time (Er.. SPYING ON EUROPE?!!) and they get involved with things they should just leave alone (Middle East??). The people there (Not to be rude and I know that this is just a generalisation) are terrified of other cultures and views and because of this they are stubborn and can't accept criticism or change. They can't even trust their own people (Spying, again...) They have GUNS. Enough said. So yeah, don't think I will be moving there any time soon!:)
So yeah, I think I have to say that Ireland is the best, ya know, cause of their ECONOMIC DISASTER and the whole "Even though you informed us that the USA is spying on us and in doing so put yourself in danger, we aren't giving you asylum here. 'American' inventions aren't a good way to judge the innovation and drive of our country due to the fact that several 'American' inventors and innovators were actually immigrants from the Old World: Zworykin [debatable], Tesla, Fermi, Bethe, Segrè, Sundbäck, Bell, Strauß, Einstein, and several more that I can't think of off the top of my head.
The artificial pacemaker was developed independently and separately by Australians, Canadians, Americans, Swedes, and Colombians. The Internet, similarly, was a collaborative effort that cannot be attributed to one nations' doings. Microwave oven was an accident, and microwaves themselves were discovered through massive amounts of international research. Tihanyi, Takayanagi, and Theramin all contributed to the idea of television prior to Farnsworth. Birth control made me laugh, you need to be more specific. Scottish economist Adam Smith [very, very, very important; if you haven't heard of him, I'd be astounded] was the first to theorize about the division of labor in the form of separating workers to specialized labor, which would improve production, and which was the first mention of any sort of 'assembly line'. Linderer and Kobori both developed airbags independently: the former's was inefficient and dangerous, but the latter's was not.
Oh, and there are some useful articles by David Drew to counter the "OMG Murrican Education is teh best" idea.
Also, yo.

Invention is a meritocratic society, in essence. Because of the attractiveness [for varied reasons] of the US to European nations at the time, we attracted a metric shit-ton of people, some of which were innovators and inventors.
They don't have an interesting history, they have ZERO culture and their government is a joke...Maybe if the states dissolved into mini countries with their own individual characteristics it would be better?:)
lolwut.
Then what is it.
Note that culture is also developed by a meritocratic-esque society. American syncretic-esque literature, art, cuisine, and to a lesser extent music are all unique in their own right and have all been developed by merited peoples from the US and abroad. These factors all combine to synthesize the unaptly named, but unique, 'American culture', which is a mixture of European, African, and Asian cultures all piled and blobbed into one big mess. American culture is very unique in its syncretic and diverse nature, as whatever state you're in, you'll see a different blend and mix of cultures that all sum up to be American.

I think Australia and USA are the two best countries but America is a bad one (for me) too.
Australia is AMAZING! Our animals are original, out native people are original and their way of life is astonishing. Our man-made buildings and structures are amazing. Our beaches are amazing. Out Great Barrier Reef, our theme parks, our zoo's our oceans, EVERYTHING! I just don't like that most of it isn't recognised by the rest of the world.
America is a great country too but I don't like the law they have on guns there. They are legal. In Australia they're not legal and the worst things we get are drunk teenagers driving bad and brawling. In America, you have shootings. Like what happened in Connecticut late last year.
I also don't appreciate the USA taking credit for our inventions and our people. Russel Crowe is NOT AMERICAN! He was born in New Zealand, raised in Australia. Hugh Jackman (Wolverine) is not American, he's Australian. Geoffrey Rush is Australian. Chris and Liam Hemsworth are Australian. Lamington's are Australian. So are pavlovas! An Australian invented the Lawn Mover!
So that's what I think...

Hm. It is not great. It has flaws, you concentrate too much on violence, guns, drugs and sex, not to mention racial discrimination which ended 50 years ago, a long time after most of the world abolished it. Slavery did not end after the Civil War, it continued but in smaller quantity.

True. You love Iran, I love Serbia, Harry and Jack love the UK. It is kind of stupid to make out the best country due to all of them having apparent flaws. But the best nation by me is Mesopotamia, the first civilization. They were the first that had laws, currency, written language, the foundations of the modern society.
PS. I laughed my jaws off when I saw your signature picture. What does that sign exactly say?
