I've been depressed for a long time now, and I've gotten help with my anxiety and depression from my psychologist (she quit her job, but I'll be getting a nrw psychologist soon). I've never been on any kind of medication other than iron tablets, and I wonder how anti depressants work. Also, how can I convince my mum and my psychologist to get me anti depressants? My mum is a nurse and doesn't want me to get anti depressants because she's afraid I'll get addicted. Any help at all is much appreciated :)

It is risky taking meds, the first anti-depressant I took made me even more suicidal.
But on the other hand, the right meds can do a lot of good
Some meds work by encouraging your brain to make seritonin which is a chemical that raises your mood
Let me know if you want more specific information

finding the right anti depressant is be a bit of trial and error. Some work better then others with different people.
They don't work right away. it takes up to a month or more for them to show any kind of eccect on you.

they can be tricky with teens as our brains are still developing. They work different with us then on adults with fully developed brains.

anyways, hope that all made sense.
