View Full Version : When you're a mod, are you allowed to ask questions?

So I really want to be a mod, but I know there are certain certain rules you have to abide by when you become one. And i know that's not anytime soon, so this is just a question out of curiosity.

I've looked at the current mods, and it seems as if none of them post questions relating to puberty. Is there a rule that says you can no longer post puberty related questions before/after becoming a moderator?

I don't believe the staff have a rule saying they aren't allowed to ask questions.

I'm sure if a mod had an earnest question that they couldn't find an answer on through research or just wanted opinions, then they would be allowed to make a thread. It even says in the rules that staff members are still VT members and are entitled to the same rules and regulations as you and I.

I could be wrong. They'll have to confirm such.

Yeah you can still ask questions, I know when I was a mod I asked questions everywhere, if I needed to. They aren't some magical species that as soon as they become mod they aren't allowed to act like normal members. They're just like me or you, it's no different just because you're staff.

I know the Mods can post in the arcade so I'm sure they can ask questions

Why aren't you a mod now?

I asked questions all the time when I was still a mod, albeit not in P101 'cause I've long passed puberty so it wasn't a pressing issue for me. But we're just like everyone else. We're still teenagers that came to this site for a reason. (And I've posted in P101 once or twice at first and that didn't keep me from being asked to be a moderator. Actually, a lot of the mods, both current and former, have posted in P101 at some point or another.) There's no rules against it, you just have to abide by the rules of the section just like everyone else.

[-]But this may just be a personal thing, but after moderating that section, I didn't want to post there. (I know people get good help there but there are some things I wish I could unsee.)[/-]

I retired like nearly 3 years ago.

This. We can still ask questions and post on the forums as normal members, because we are members. Sure you may not see a lot of mods filling out P101 surveys or asking questions there, but that depends on the individual mod. There is absolutely no rule saying we can't post threads, and there won't be. As Siobhan said, we're still members and we're honestly no better than anyone else.

(If you're interested, I started out in P101 back in the day :P)

Oh, ok.

It just didn't seem like it, but I guess that's good news to me when I qualify to become a mod if and when applications go up:D

I suppose we're more in to other sections(not that you shouldn't make use of P101 -- that's why it's there), but now and again we'll help in a thread.
I'm sure if we had questions, we'd post them there, so don't worry. :)

I think most mods don't want to affiliate themselves with the P101 section other than moderating the threads. You get a lot of repetitive, immature questions and most of the users that join for P101 leave as soon as they as their questions and answer a few themselves. There's not a lot of people you can meet, and it makes it awkward to talk to those same people outside of those threads.

Once you become a mod, you become more well known and generally talk to the regular users, and don't want to associate yourselves with the P101 section since they're usually filled with younger users. The regular users are older and have more knowledge about puberty since they're usually well into it.

This is a pretty good explanation of it.

I also think it has to do with the fact that when we hire mods we're looking for helpful users, so we tend to hire people that post the most help (this is for H&A mods of course) and they usually tend to not ask for it as much anymore since they're knowledgable enough to answer other peoples' questions. They're allowed to ask/post anything they want as long as it's within the rules.

Well, there's no direct rule against it but it can be seen as kinda funky if you see a moderator asking about armpit hair or something of the like :P

It usually doesn't happen for this reason.

I ask questions, just not in puberty. Seeing as I'm 19 (:P) and pretty much knowledgeable about most of that, plus I don't feel the need to. I do, however, try to respond to some threads in P101. I just don't really see it necessary. But, no, it isn't a rule that forbids mods from asking puberty related questions.
