Okay, so here is a wild theory I happen to aggree with:
parenting (atleast partly) determens intelligence.
Like, if I were raised by stupid parents, and just watche stupid tv shows and never workded for anything, I think I would be stupid, and able to lurn much less.
Like, I think I am more intelligent then lots of other kids (not trying to brag, lol)
is because my parents taught me never to take something as it is, always question everything, debate, be creative.
I never watched new tv-shows, i didnt even like them, i did however like the much more creative and educational videos we had on videotape.
I thank my parents for raising me like that, because i beleive it makes me much mrore expressive and creative person
Anyone else feel the same?
(sorry for all the spelling errors, i typed this really fast)

It really depends how you define intelligence.
Is it IQ or what grades you get? That's where the major problems come in. I also think it's narrow minded to assume that watching TV makes you stupid

Okay with intelligence I mean the level of understanding you have of the world and questions and everything.
Like, some people may learn a list of 35902359 words in their head, but that doesnt make them intelligent.
With intelligence I mean more the ability to think things through

I don't think it does. I think it's up to the individual and quality of education. I believe parents only help determine your intelligence in your early stages of life.
I'm about a million miles from my parents in terms of intelligence, lifestyle, talent, etc.

Serbia has shitty education. They are teaching us to be mindless nationalist drones and not to think really. Luckily I do not go with the flow, instead if being a wannabe criminal and nationalist bitch, I actually want ti be successful in my life. When I say successful, I ean to accomplish my goals, like to get a job I want to do, become self-sufficient, start a family etc.

You are correct. The statistics back it up. Lazy parents = lazy kids. Hard working parents = Hard working kids. Education quality plays a significant role, but your family is much more important int determining who you are.

I think that the 'nature and nurture' idea really comes into play here. Say a child was adopted. The child's real parents were genetically really smart, and so the child was genetically smart. If it was adopted into a family of laziness (not nesesarily stupid) the I think that it too would become stupid, because the adopted family did not teach the child to strive and push yourself. This could work vice versa too, a genetically stupid child, striving harder. The child wouldn't nesesarily become smart, but they would be alot smarter.

This. I wouldn't say my parents are stupid, but well there are some things they just aren't good at. Take my mom for example. She has a good reason though; she was born in China...but anyways...she's kinda forgotten a lot of math stuff, and her English isn't the best. Their intelligence doesn't really determine mine...(though I don't believe I'm that smart anyways)...

I agree with your theory, especially if a child is home-schooled or goes to average public schools.

I was raised by an insecure, domineering single mother with no education to speak of past high school, in a family of failures, drug dealers, drop-outs and manual laborers.
I'm the first one to attend university. Go figure. If there's a correlation, I don't think it's strong.

I think my parents have definitely helped me be where I am. They encouraged me to read and read to me from a young age. Unfortunately my dad wasn't around a lot to play sports and stuff with me because he was working loads so I missed out a lot in that department, but I still appreciate everything they've done.
