Hey, I'm interested in joining the swim team next year, and frankly haven't got a clue on how to condition. I looked online, and I'm not sure what exercises I should be doing, or which ones are useless. Any swimmers out there that could give me any advice? Feel free to post here or pm me. Thanks!

Not on a team haha, but yeah I have a pool. I can swim, I just need to start building stamina and all that.

A LOT of cardio...you want to build up endurance and muscle tone....don't go for the excersizes that build large muscles but strengthen and tone. Do a lot of running/jogging....just basically anything that builds strength (not size too much) and endurance...sorry couldn't be more specific :(

Well you need a heck of a lot of endurance if you want to actually win your meets. My advise would be start swimming now! It's best if you do it now, so when swim season starts you'll be prepared to the physical condition. Maybe go to your local gym and sign up for a swim class or two that will actually train you to be a competitive swimmer. And of course eat really healthy and drink lots of water!

what i do to stay in shape for swimming is..
-run every day
-stretch
-swim a mile (~1,600meters)
-start with a warm up (200meter freestly should be good)
-100IM (individual medley) {butterfly, backstroke, breastroke, freestyle} 25meters each.
-200IM {butterfly, backstroke, breastroke, freestyle} 50meters each.
-300IM {butterfly, backstroke, breastroke, freestyle} 75meters each.
-400IM {butterfly, backstroke, breastroke, freestyle} 100meters each.
-300IM
-200IM
