Need Advice from the Guitarists on Here

Ok so I need to buy a distortion or overdrive pedal because the gain on my Fender Mustang l is just awful. I can't really afford a new amp at the moment so pedals are my best bet, and can't complain because on clean settings the 'Stang rocks. Anyways, does anyone have any suggestions? I play anything from blues to metal. Thanks! :D

First of all, I agree with you that gain on Fender amps like that really is awful. I don't have one, but my friend does and my little Roland Microcube does better with gain. Anyway, I would look into Boss pedals, they're pretty well-known and even famous people use them.
