View Full Version : Can I just put my Blackberry SIM card in my iPhone 3GS?

So I have a family member who lives in the US and he has an old iPhone 3GS meant for AT&T, if I have him put a SIM card from his blackberry (T Mobile) into his iPhone 3GS will the iPhone work and call?

I was thinking he can just ship it to me if it did cause I will visit him soon and stay with him for a week or two.

If you're asking if the SIM card can be transferred from one phone to another, I believe that's the point of SIM cards, so yes. - However, that may only be true if the SIM card is an AT&T SIM card.

yes you can, iphone 3gs uses normal sim cards, whereas iphone 4 and 4s uses micro-sim and iphone 5 uses nano-sim

The biggest question is what network is the phone on.
Initially, most phones are "locked " to a network. Att, tmobile, verizon. Even if the sim fits, unless the phone has been "unlocked" it wont work.
BUT THE GOOD NEWS.......either contact the original carrier for a free unlock code ( a few quick clicks will unlock it) or go on like ebay and they can usually be purchashed pretty cheap, like a couple of $.

The iPhone would have to be from Tmobile or be an unlocked/GSM iPhone, otherwise, you won't get service. Sure, the SIM card will fit, but you won't be able to call/text.

You CAN however there is no guarantee that it will work, since it may be locked to the Blackberry

Someone mentioned above thats only from the iPhone 4 on, OP wants to have his friend use an iPhone 3GS.

Oh right, then I guess it will truly depend on Network only then. Some networks all sims to be inserted in all phones on all networks and other networks limit sims to only work on phones issued by that network.
