I'd say got for either Alpine or Kenwood. Those are brands specialized in Car sound and radios.

Depends on exactly what you want. I run a Pioneer head unit, Infinity Component speakers, and a MTX sub, all the amps are Pioneer. 18 months strong with all of it so far, it sounds very good.
Alpine and Kenwood aren't bad either, personally I've just had more experience with those listed in my system.

Kenwood has some of the best speakers, but Pioneer are apparently some of the best for receiver.

Pioneer are pretty good. They make a lot of dj'ing stuff so their sound quality is great on all their stuff :)

Pioneer is good for a head unit but I don't recommend their speakers. I just bought two pioneers and already blew out a tweeter in one and the other is completely destroyed.

I've always found that I prefer whatever it comes with. But since I've had newer vehicles that's usually guaranteed.

I pretty much agree with him^ But I know my boyfriend is really into sound systems, and he said that he likes MTX.

A late reply but it certainly depends what you're looking for. If you're talking about headunits, I would recommend Alpine, Clarion and Pioneer. I run a Pioneer and it's fantastic.
As for speakers, speakers are personal due to what you want from a speaker, and what music you listen to. That being said, I run Focal KRX3's and everyone I've shown loves them.
A lot of the time with car audio - you get what you pay for.

I've heard that Rockford Fosgate is pretty good, kind of expensive but good.

I have a Harman/Kardon system that came native with the car. It's sound is great; the bass is a little downtoned tho. IMO the best native sound system I've heard in a car is Audi + Bang & Olufsen
