(I'm posting a lot of threads, sorry!)

So I had an interesting conversation with my brother yesterday. He shows me a picture from twitter of some persons MTF transformation, and asks my opinion on it. I just look at it and say "And ..." nonchalantly, because its no big deal. He says do I see anything wrong with it, and I say am I supposed to see something wrong with it, and he looks at me funny.

What am I supposed to see wrong with that  and why would I think its a bad thing? How can someone say its wrong if its just who someone is.

If your transgender, be transgender. Am I right?

I don't see how this is really a debate, but yes, why should it be weird?

The idea of someone changing their gender is still alien to a large amount of people however.

Joshhhh, may I correct you a little?

Transgender - Transitioning into their identified gender

Aka, changing their sex to match their identified gender.

And it's an issue for people because a lot of organized religions claim it's against their religion.... Plus a lot of people assume transgender people are perverts, defilers, posers, liars, confused, mentally ill.... A lot of people don't understand what being trans* is, and can't be bothered to educate themselves on what it is so they get angry.

Add in a lot of people feel tricked if transgender people actually - shock, gasp - don't disclose every little details about their transition, or whether or not "they're a """real"""" x!". People are raised from the moment they're in cribs to be either pink or blue, female or male. When people stepped from one of society's little boxes into another, people panic and get confused, regardless of the personal matter it actually is.

I don't see what I was corrected on. I simply said changing gender. I'm well aware that they're changing into an identified gender.

Sorry I wasn't clear.

Sex =/= Gender

In my case, I was born female. My sex is changing to be male. My gender is male. Changing gender implies their mental gender changed too, which isn't the case often.

I'm always really wary about talking about issues such as transgender-ism, because I'm speaking from a position of privilege and can't really know what it's like for people who aren't cisgender.

But I have a pre-op FTM trans friend and also being gay he had a hard time figuring out what he was. He liked boys but also didn't feel like a female, what was he? Sort of thing.

Suffice to say, I'm completely fine with it and will use whatever pronouns you wish me to use when referring to you. My friend is a he, he may have a female body, but he's still a he.

Given. I should have been a bit more clear in my original post. :P

Is it weird? Yes
Why? Just like other reforms in society today people are not used to the change, many use the Bible and oother lexicons still as principles for morality, plus media gives transgender a bad rep, like when a MTF doesnt tell their parter their original gender until the last minute and so on

Am I personally against it? Nope, why should I be? It doesbt affect me what so ever whoch annoys me why many people oppose such reforms, but in the bottomline in the future wouldnt be suprised if we look like all the different characters from the people from star wars I

Being transgender* isn't a choice. Transitioning is a choice, however it is often seen as "transition-or-suicide" to many many trans* folks because of how uncomfortable they are in their birth-assigned bodies. But being trans* is not a choice.

like when a MTF doesnt tell their parter their original gender until the last minute and so on

Gentle reminder that 'gender' and 'sex' are not synonymous. Sex is what's between your legs. Gender is how you identify.
