View Full Version : Is the Prince of Persia franchise dead?

Seriously, the Prince of Persia franchise seemed to be strong and even though games were less frequent they kept being great (except for Warrior Within). Now Ubisoft hasn't shown any desire at all to bring back one of the oldest and most acclaimed franchises. Is it because of that rip-off called Assassin's Creed? Are they focusing all their team into finishing the franchise after the first game ruined it? Did Assassin's Creed kill Prince of Persia? Or was it Ubisoft's ignorance.

Well, making a quality game takes lots of time and people. Now you may not like the story or concepts behind other Ubisoft games, but much time and effort went into making the masterpiece you see on your screen.
Bit of a fun fact: did you know it was even harder some 8-10 years ago? The PS2, for example, only has 32MB of memory. So as a developer you had to be extremely stingy, and making that work takes lots of time, also taking into account that you must make it look nice, too. Today developers still face that problem as things should be in HD, 3D, and use high quality textures in a huge world with complicated elements.
Perhaps Ubisoft will someday bring back the Prince of Persia franchise. Some ways to get it back:
Tell Ubisoft. Surely they have a community/forum of some sort, post it there, and have others do the same.
Tell a publisher. This is probably Sony or Microsoft. They too have communities and forums where you can offer your opinion.
Tell your ideas, and suggest things, but don't make fan fiction. Yes, some of it is clever, but the developers want to have creative freedom. That's difficult in a set story, as changing one thing usually prompts a rewrite of everything else. You're not their story writer, they've already got those.
It was a good story, but the only game I have from it is Sands of Time on the PS2. I remember it being slightly boring and too unrealistic for my tastes. Plus, most every scene lacks background music.

Maybe not, but probably so it seems. It could be going through a stage of "development hell" where the games development completely stops. In some cases, like Team Fortress 2, the game won't release for 10 years.

(except for Warrior Within).
Wha... Are you serious...?
I'm sorry but anything you say about the PoP franchise has lost most of it's credibility. Warrior Within was an awesome PoP game, maybe not as good as Sands of Time or Two Thrones, but still pretty damn sweet.
that rip-off called Assassin's Creed?
AC a rip off of PoP? Are you high? Just because AC was made by the same company and had a few similar characteristic does not make it a rip off, the AC games are mostly great games in their own right.
Did Assassin's Creed kill Prince of Persia? Or was it Ubisoft's ignorance.
If you really want to know what may have made PoP lose it's support from Ubisoft look at the latest PoP game called "The Forgotten Sands", it was terrible, even PoP 2008 was a better than it, and that was barely a PoP game at all.
You're calling Ubisoft ignorant when you really need to work on some of your own knowledge.

Actually, for you information Assassin's Creed IS a Prince of Persia rip-off since it was originally intended to be a Prince of Persia game called Prince of Persia: Assassins. It evolved into its own game yet kept a really large amount of the Prince of Persia mechanics.

That doesn't make it a rip off at all. Devil May Cry started out as a Resident Evil sequel, but that doesn't make it a rip off, they're two completely different games, you couldn't compare them. The only mechanic that is similar to the PoP formula is the climbing and jumping and the fact that they're both third person, that's it. Combat is different, setting is different, story isn't similar at all. Saying it kept a large amount of PoP mechanics is really ignorant and makes me think you haven't even played the PoP games.

Wall climbing, similar camera, combat in The Sands of Time is quite similar to combat in the first Assassin's Creed, same engines, and puzzles in both games revolve around platforming. And I have played all the Sands of Time trilogy along with The Forgotten Sands games and most Assassin's Creed games to be able to say they are quite similar.

I'm sorry but climbing is about all they have in common. I've played all PoP games and I can safely say that the combat is completely different, the setting is completely different, the puzzles are completely different and the overall game design and development is different.
I mean third person and climbing is about all they've got in common.

I think u are the one ignorant here cos pop2008 sold more than ww and t2t. If you would have visited the pop forums u wud have know that. Most of the fans there liked that game and at least 85% want a sequel.
