Does your school use an online grade book where u can see your grades whenever you want? For example, powerschool? What are your opinions of you, and parents being able to see your grades at your/their pleasure?

My school does, and it sucks a lot because I don't like my dad being able to just check my grades like that, because if you miss a day of something and they teacher is too lazy to keep her grade book updated it looks like you have a bad grade and zeros and stuff and that's just not cool.

But, then again it can be handy for the student if the teachers do keep it going regularly.

It's a good idea to an extent but I find it really annoying, because my school has an online grade book my mom is always nagging at me to do better, which just stresses me out.

Yeah, I think more and more schools are using it now! It's really good because then if you are missing any assignments, then you can go talk to the teacher about it or turn it in if you still have it. Plus you can see what you can improve on in your class and how you can raise your grade up.

Yes, and everybody hates it. The teachers, the students, and the parents. It keeps crashing. One of my teachers went back to an excel spreadsheet because it worked better!

And we wonder why the schools are out of money. We're wasting money on things like this.

We don't.

I guess it could be useful...

We do and I like being able to see my grades, but I changed the password and blocked the site from my parent's computer so they can't get on (they're not really tech-savvy people, so they don't know how to fix it).

It isn't that I get bad grades or skip school or anything, I just HATE HATE HATE when my parents nag about my grades; if I get a B-, they demand to know why I couldn't get a B+ and it is terrible having people criticism you all the time like this.

My school district uses the infamous Infinite Campus, the biggest piece of crap ever. It pretends to be secure and everything, but that doesn't help when you store passwords in plain text. It's a huge security hole that's just waiting to be exploited.

When these things were introduced when I was in 6th grade, my mom basically refreshed it every hour, or so it seemed. Every assignment was commented on. This was in the days before Infinite Campus, with something called "Pinnacle Internet Viewer" or something.
Then came Infinite Campus with it's user unfriendly design, lack of percentages and letter grades next to assignments, and overall slowness. This discouraged constant checking, so I guess it was good.

Overall, they're poorly designed and crappy. The makers don't seem to take it seriously, either, as they seem to forget that many peoples' futures depend on the undisturbed functioning of their grading systems.

Yes, we have only our grades and attendance up there. For me the grades are quite help full sometimes...

Yep, my high school did

I didn't mind my parents seeing my grade (mainly my mom). better to let her see the grades I have for herself than me telling her.

My school used to use Infinite Campus (and I share the same opinion on it as Thomas) but they're switching over to PowerSchool this year, which hopefully will be better. I like the idea just so I can see my grades without having to wait as long (well most of the time), and honestly I don't mind if my parents glance at it (though they rarely do).

Yup, my high-school used to have it. It worked somewhat well (some glitches and user problems made it annoying), but it also gave useful things like GPA and class rank.

Fun fact I discovered a while ago: if you do "forgot password" in Infinite Campus, it sends you an email with your actual password in it. This means they don't hash(kind of like encrypting, to provide an analogy) it, and the whole thing is a ticking time bomb waiting to be exploited.

I like the fact I can see my grades and the assignments I did or missed because I can try to calculate a way to bump up my grade if I'm like failing a class or whatnot, but I do hate the fact that the grades aren't always updated. I am lucky that my parents never log on and check my grades, they just wait until my report card comes out.

Well I'm in an online school, some of my grades are put online by my teachers, but some of my stuff is graded by my mom, but I think inthe end everything ends up online.

Yes, they use Powerschool, and as useful as it is I would be fine not knowing my grades.

Thankfully, my school doesn't use online gradebooks thanks to the school's conservativeness.

My school doesn't, but the sixth form I'm going to next month does. I haven't got any experience of it, but I think it would be a good and a bad thing. Good as you can easily see your latest grades, but a downside would be that your parents could as well, and if you got bad grades...

My district uses eSembler, and I love it when I'm doing good, but I hate it when she sees my missing shit and when I'm not doing so good.
