Okay, it really baffles me why cannabis is illegal (i personally prefer to call it cannabis rather than marijuana or weed). I'm not going to say that cannabis is perfect, it does have a few bad side effects, like lack of oxygen in the eyes, which makes the eyes red) (which also happens when you're tired but stay awake) and it kind of makes you loose touch with reality which is why it's a psychedelic drug, causes short term memory loss and im sure there are others. But the benefits really out way the negatives. Cannabis, depending on if it's an indica or sativa, enhances creativity, puts you in a great mood, relieves pains and headaches, helps with many health issues such as insomnia, multiple sclerosis, gout, seizure disorders, and even has cured some cancers. There's a statistic that cannabis cures 7 out of 10 cancer patients, while chemotherapy kills 7 out of 10 cancer patients (tbh, im not sure if this is a totally legit statistic). But cannabis has been proven to have cured many people with skin cancer and lung cancer(who knew right? Who knew that smoking something can actually cure lung cancer?). But there are no recorded deaths due to cannabis use and it had been used for 1000s of years. There are way less car accidents that happen when people are under the influence of cannabis than alcohol. It's actually proven that people under the influence of cannabis drive safer than people who are not under the influence of anything. I just don't get it. Why is alcohol legal and cannabis isn't? Why are cigarettes legal, but cannabis isn't? It just doesn't make sense to me.
This was super long! Sorry! Lol

It is legal here in holland :)
I aggree that if you make cannabis illegal, you need to make alchohol and smoking illegal too, or atleast have really strict rules on it.

In the U.S. it is mainly because it is hard to place a tax on it. In my opinion the "War on Drugs" is more unnecessary than the Vietnam War was, a decent size chunk of the drug problem can be solved by *gasp* LEGALIZATION. I guess that solution makes too much sense. Anyway, hope that clears it up a little :D

Idk about the stats you stated because medical marijuana is prescribed to cancer patients on chemo or radiation therapy and docent cure cancer it just reduces the growth of tumors but I agree that the benefit out way the bad stuff. Because if marijuana is vaporized if eaten then it has no known harmful effects on the body.

as for cannabis, i have no opinion either way but I'm glad that you can't be a cannibal :P

Fun fact: Cannabis is technically not legal in your country. It's merely tolerated and the authorities put a blind a eye to it. In other words, it sort of a 'de facto legalization'. And it's taxed - which it should be.

Well personally I'm glad its illegal here in the UK. I could see some horrible things going wrong while people are under the influence.

Apparently, it was first illegalized because of the belief that it made people (read: non-whites) violent against white people. Then, in the 1930s it was believed to make women more promiscuous, specifically to make white women more likely to choose black men as sex partners.
And that's what happened. Now it's just illegal because it's always been that way.

It really is just politics. There really was no reason for the criminalization of cannabis other than congress being petitioned to criminalize it by a few different industries (paper textile and lumber) because hemp was more useful in industry.

You know it's funny. They say you can't promote use of illegal drugs in this forum, but what drugs are illegal varies greatly from country to country, and we have users from all over the world on here. For example, heroin is legal in Somalia; If I was Somali, would I be allowed to promote heroin usage because it was legal where I lived? I'm just curious, that thought popped up into my head. If a mod could clarify that'd be great.
Maybe the rule should say like "drugs illegal in America," or something. That rule just seems very up for interpretation.

Only in highly regulated amounts with a much lower THC (the active substance) then most marijuana.

It's illegal cause its a mind altering drug. I personally believe it should be completely legal, it's no different then cigarettes or alcohol.

Personal usage isn't legal where I live, but it's tolerated? I don't see why it's illegal its much better for you than cigarettes and alcohol, so yeah I agree it's stupid that it's technically illegal...

I know!! It's worse than alcohol!! And yet the government spend billions trying to prevent it. Even Obama has smoked it and he is still loved by millions of people. BUT it can lead to have some serious mental issues if your an addict.
I just find out if you don't smoke it then you have a 1% chance of getting mental health problems, smoke it a few time you have a 2% chance of getting mental health problems and if your an addict it's 6%.

Perhaps, but here's what I heard:
A lot of stuff like clothing and rope used to be made out of hemp. Well, along comes this thing called the "Cotton Gin" which made using cotton a lot easier. How do they promote using cotton? Banning hemp.
Voila.
I do think it's odd that it's grown similarly to tobacco, is 100% natural (unlike a regular cigarette), yet is illegal.

It absolutely stinks and smells awful. Perhaps that's a reason?
But I do think to some extent that if cannabis is made illegal, alcohol should be illegal too as the effects are far worse.

I don't understand why it's illegal in my city. literally every person here smokes weed. Shit, they even hold a protest twice a year where about 200-400 people go down to the art gallery and smoke weed from 7am until like 6pm. And theres always about 30 police there. I guess to just make sure nobody gets hurt. idk if this counts as promoting weed? But im not trying to promote it o.o

Some of those stats are not really things that have been proven HOWEVER I agree with them and think that Cannabis (the Cannabidiol NOT Tetrahydrocannabinol) is amazing for the body.
The "high" which comes from Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is useful to an extent but the health benefits almost only come from CBD (Cannabidiol) which has NO psychoactive property to cause a "high."
Sure, just taking CBD is not as fun but it will make you healthier and prevent cancer (in a huge way since CBD forces cancer cells to stop asking for nutrients from the body and therefore they die out.)
Overall, make it legal, it does NO harm unless you have TOO MUCH THC (too much THC without a counterbalance of CBD can bring about a state of psychosis) but overall, there is no reason to keep it legal other than prison money for the Government and private companies (drug companies mainly.)

Oh yea i always new that there was a difference between CBD and THC. But you clarified it a lot better, thanks:) and yea i totally agree that it's harmless and shouldn't be illegal. And it really pains me to know that so many innocent people are being arrested for possession. Those people don't even deserve it.

Yep, no problem, glad I could help clarify it. The biggest issue I see nowadays is that people go to jail for drug offences (primarily non-whites and primarily for Marijuana.)
Not only do they go to Jail but they then have less rights moving forward, sometimes they cannot vote, and they cannot run for Public Office. And yet our President has flat-out said that he used to always smoke Weed, but if he had been caught JUST ONCE he would have been unable to become President.
It is just a disgusting situation.

I agree 100% but i think alcohol and cigarettes are way worse than cannabis. I think they should legalize it. I agree with Altiier that its illegal because they cant tax it thats all want is to make a profit.

And the worst thing is that everyone at my school is being brainwashed into being against marijuana. I can't even bring up the topic without being called a lunatic.
