My dad keeps making up excuses, to not teach me to drive. I'm 16, almost 17. The latest excuse it "Wait until we have a second car. If you wreck this car, we're screwed" That's fine, and dandy. I can wait. This car gets payed off in a couple months.
Problem is, WE WONT GET A SECOND CAR. He refuses to listen to me, and save money for anything. I tell him "Try putting a little bit aside, from each pay check. Not a lot, just a little" But, NOOOOOO. He spends it all on lottery tickets! To "try to win the money for a second car" He won't let me get a job until we get a second car. How the hell am I supposed to learn to drive, if he won't teach me?
He won't drive me to a job. He won't let me WALK to a job. He won't save money for a second car. What.The.Hell. :l
I have ZERO opportunities to make money, to save for a car. I'm now allowed to babysit, do work for neighbors, I don't get an allowance. I'm wanting to move out, around 18-19. I probably still won't know how to drive! I don't have any friends to teach me, and he won't let anyone else teach me. This has been going on for 2 years. (I could have gotten my permit at 14.) Anytime I try to talk to him about it, he gets mad and says how he's tired of hearing about it. AGH!!!!!! This ticks me off, more than you can imagine. He won't do his job, as a PARENT!

From the sounds of it your father is not living up to the father role model. So if he won't teach you then keep on hitting those books. Try watching Youtube videos and try to learn from them. If you have anyone that is like a role model to you that is older try learning from them. For the money problems just save the money you can get including change.

Maybe is there someone else you could learn from? Uncle/Aunt? Older siblings/mum. Someone like that, or you could just get a instructure and leave it down to him... For the money part, i think you need to get a job and start saving... I'm not quite sure how he would react with this. He sounds a bit like my father....

That's ridiculous. No to be mean, but you know the warning after lottery commercials that says "the lottery is for entertainment only and not to be played for investment purposes." If you want to save money, the last thing you do is buy lottery tickets. That's the highest risk investment possible.
First things first, though: Do you have a learners permit?

Well maybe get a job and save the money so then you can go buy a car? Or at least pay a nice portion for the car so then you can start learning how to drive.

Find an big open space like an empty (but outdoors) parking lot and tell your Dad you can drive there, the risks are quite minimized there.

Honestly, the vehicle doesn't even have to be a car or truck. The true way I learned how to drive was having my grandpa guiding me along driving his Kawasaki Mule, an off-road vehicle. I also rode four-wheelers, snowmobiles, dirt bikes and even a moped at such a young age. This is the reason why I am such a good driver - because I got a start using vehicles other than cars at a young age. Sure, it's a bit of a different experience being behind the wheel of a car as opposed to a smaller off-road vehicle, but the basics are pretty much the same - you just don't have to deal with much traffic or intersections, etc.
If you have access to any of these types of vehicles, take advantage of them. Get to know the basics of operation and you will catch on quickly. Your dad doesn't have to own any of these vehicles for you to use them. Perhaps maybe a friend or another relative may have access to one that they would allow you to use?
Driving can be overwhelming at first, but you will eventually catch on. Like I said, it doesn't have to be an actual car or truck for you to learn. Almost anything with two to four wheels will work. :-)

Think about how killer your legs and ass will look if you ride a bike!
And how much better for the environment you'll be
And bike shorts are sexy
In all seriousness your Dad is probably just concerned for your safety - it's a huge thing and he likely feels he couldn't live with himself if you were hurt or killed doing something he taught you to do- you're his baby still, he needs to realize how grown up you really are - so treat him and this issue with maturity and patience
Please do not double post.
