View Full Version : What's your political affiliation?

Walter Powers

Just curious. I made a little survey below. You don't have to answer all the questions if you don't want to. Also, you only have to explain when it says "why or why not" if you want to. And feel free to elaborate on any question.

Finally, I realize some of these questions may be irrelevant to people not living in the free world. Asking whether voting should be mandatory in China is a little silly, for example, since you can't vote there to begin with. Sorry.

What country are you a citizen of?
What are the most influential political partie(s) in your country?
Which of these parties do you support? Why?
Who's your countries' primary political leader (President, Prime Minister, King, Dictator, etc.)?
Do you approve of how she/he is doing their job? Why or why not?
Is your view of America generally positive or negative? Why? (Only answer if you aren't American)
Do you support gay marriage?
Do you support socialized healthcare?
Do you support school vouchers?
Do you support "right to work" laws?
When should abortion be legal (until the third trimester, in cases of rape, etc)?
Do you support a flat tax?
Should voting be mandatory?
Do you support the death sentence?
Do you support affirmative action?
What are your biggest concerns about the world's and your country's politics right now?

Here's mine:

What country are you a citizen of? The United States of America.
What are the influential political partie(s) in your country?
Republicans, Democrats (Major) Independents, Socialists, and Libertarians (minor).
Which of these parties do you support? Why?
Mostly the Republicans, but I'm libertarian leaning on some issues. I just think this country is successful as it is for a reason, and that reason is that we're a capitalist, enterprising, free country that defends itself well. I think that you should be rewarded for success and punished for failure. The Democrats, largely, are now "progressives" who want to change things that work!
Who's your countries' primary political leader (President, Prime Minister, King, Dictator, etc.)? President Obama.
Do you approve of how she/he is doing their job? Why or why not? No. He's a self interested politician from arguably the most corrupt city in the country, and will do anything to buy votes or unethically alter elections in his favor.
Is your view of America generally positive or negative? Why? (Only answer if you aren't American) N/A
Do you support gay marriage? No.
Do you support socialized healthcare? No.
Do you support school vouchers? Yes.
Do you support "right to work" laws? Yes.
When should abortion be legal (until the third trimester, in cases of rape, etc)? Never in the third trimester, before that it should be legal if a doctor determines it to be threatening the mothers life (10% or more chance the mother could die.)
Do you support a flat tax? Yes.
Should voting be mandatory? No.
Do you support the death sentence? Yes.
Do you support affirmative action? No.
What are your biggest concerns about your countries and the world's politics right now?
My primary worry is the national debt. As it stands now, us teenagers won't be getting social security, Medicare, unemployment benefits or any of those nice things because our government's spending is out of control.
I'm also concerned about how powerful Russia and China are becoming. They are against everything the free world stands for, and if they get too powerful the world might find itself in World War III.
Finally, I'm concerned about illegal immigration from the south. It's greatly hurting our economy and will continue to do so.

What country are you a citizen of? USA
What are the most influential political party(s) in your country? Democrat/Republican
Which of these parties do you support? Why? Democrat because of their more liberal views, I suppose. I mostly do so out of influence of my parents/grandparents.
Who's your countries' primary political leader (President, Prime Minister, King, Dictator, etc.)? President Obama.
Do you approve of how she/he is doing their job? Why or why not? Yes. This is a free country, and I believe he's doing well in going towards that goal.
Is your view of America generally positive or negative? Why? (Only answer if you aren't American) N/A
Do you support gay marriage? Indifferent.
Do you support socialized healthcare? N/A
Do you support school vouchers? N/A
Do you support "right to work" laws? N/A
When should abortion be legal (until the third trimester, in cases of rape, etc)? Until twelve weeks in (I believe that's when the baby forms a heartbeat).
Do you support a flat tax? N/A
Should voting be mandatory? No.
Do you support the death sentence? Yes.
Do you support affirmative action? Yes.
What are your biggest concerns about the world's and your country's politics right now?
Nothing, atm.

It's called capitalism. And it's what made America the worlds superpower. If socialism is so great, why don't you move to Cuba?

Also:
Right to work - Laws preventing employers from negotiating contracts with labor unions that require all of that companies employees join that union.
Affrimative action - Laws that give preference to minorities in one way or another. Also called "positive racism".
Flat tax- tax where everyone pays the same rate, regardless of income. It also generally has minimal loopholes and deductions.
School vouchers - giving parents money to help send their kids to better private schools instead of bad public schools.

My parents would not of been able to afford health cover in America, but the Socialist NHS over here provided the care for free meaning my parents didn't take on mountains of debt to save my life.

So your parents didn't think to buy health insurance? If they're was no socialized healthcare, you'd have private insurance instead, which would pay for it.

Also, I wonder if Britains socialist tendencies might be the reason your dad was making so little. My Dax's in IT and he makes six figures here in America.

My dad always tells me that when I have a family, my TOP PRIORITY, after the immidiate needs of food and shelter, should be to purchase health insurance.

My dad wasn't working, that was the whole point. He worked in a computing lab in a school, that's not really high end IT. You don't buy health insurance in Britain, we get it for free. Why should you have to pay someone to stay alive? That's blackmail, you can be lying on the street and the first thing they check is your wallet

Well, it's better to have private insurance then have the government decide your fate. Private insurance is held accountable if they don't give you money your entitled to. Governments often aren't.

My point is that, if you lived in America, your parents would have private insurance and you still would have lived. Your dad would also have likely been employed better because we have a lot more IT jobs here because of our low regulation and taxation.

Also, even if you can't afford it in the present time, our doctors still do a life saving operation anyways. They worry about the cost later. We Americans aren't THAT cruel :)

Minorities are equal, but they don't need to be given lower standard to get into college or get a job. I don't think they're that inferior as to need extra help with those things, do you?

And if you think public schools are better then private schools, you've Obviosly never seen inner city America. Poor families are begging for these programs so their children aren't sent into dropout factories.

What country are you a citizen of? Canada
What are the most influential political partie(s) in your country? Liberal Party, Conservative Party, New Democratic Party (NDP), Bloc Québécois, Green Party
Which of these parties do you support? Why? Green Party is my favourite, since they are the most left, but I would probably vote NDP, since the Green Party doesn't win, while the NDP has a much better chance.
Who's your countries' primary political leader (President, Prime Minister, King, Dictator, etc.)? Steven Harper, prime minister
Do you approve of how she/he is doing their job? Why or why not? No. Not at all. He has ridiculous policies, such as building more jails when crime is at an all time low. The conservatives are about as backwards as you can get, with many of them trying to recriminalize abortion.
Is your view of America generally positive or negative? Why? (Only answer if you aren't American) Negative. Barbaric healthcare system, too many guns, no marriage equality, etc.
Do you support gay marriage? Yes
Do you support socialized healthcare? Yes, I think healthcare should be a universal human right
Do you support school vouchers? Undecided, we don't have them in Canada, so I know little about them
Do you support "right to work" laws? Undecided
When should abortion be legal (until the third trimester, in cases of rape, etc)? Until birth
Do you support a flat tax? No, the rich should pay a much higher percentage in tax
Should voting be mandatory? No, but strongly encouraged through education
Do you support the death sentence? No, too expensive and ineffective
Do you support affirmative action? Undecided.
What are your biggest concerns about the world's and your country's politics right now? The conservatives are trying to take away rights of women, and their current policies will drastically raise crime. As for the world, Syria and North Korea are big concerns, but really anywhere where human rights are being violated.
