View Full Version : New app where you can put messages and pics in places - Fun or not?

I am thinking about developing a fun app where you can store content in places.
For instance, if you had a good time at a sports ground, you can take a pic, add a message like "I hit a home run today". :yeah: Next time a friend comes to the place he will find the message. Similar to a graffity you put on a wall.
Or, if you had a great time with your GF in a romantic place, you take a pic of you and save the moment for eternity.
People can only access the messages when actually around. So it is unlike Facebook etc.
Hot or not?
Thanks!!

Definitely hot! Could be abused, so would need team of staff to remove abusive messages, but is definitely a great idea!

Sounds aweszome, but would need alot of moderation. you should add that you only see the messages of peope you choose too, and it can also be used in emergencies to tell you where you are

fantastic feedback, guys! based on your experience with the other social networks, what would be your wish list for this app? E.g. slimmer, less identity junk, cooler design.

You would have to take into account the massive server space that would be needed if people use this app, as there will be a lot of high-resolution photos being uploaded and each takes quite a large file size.

I've experimented with something like this, It could save and load images but the proccess to load them into a template was slow and time consuming,

Well then so do we :P

It's a similar problem here, too. You'd be amazed at how much space just one post like this one takes up. I estimate it to be something on the order of 10kB per post, probably more. That may not seem like a lot, but when you multiply that by almost 2 million posts in total, you've got a few drives full!

With "loading into a template", do you mean putting an <img> tag around the hi-res image? Because yes, that yould be slow. This is why most sites use thumbnails.

This is a great idea and all, what a shame you're a bit too old for our target audience! Sorry!
