If it goes against your religions/beliefs and you really care about those, then yes, you should try to stop masturbating. You'll still have urges though, so you have to learn to control them.
However, it is up to you to decide. Just don't let it bother you too much.

Masturbation itself is likely a sin in all religions since that has been interpreted to fall under sexual immorality and many people regardless of religion do choose to do it. You don't necessarily know you're the only one in your family since it's a secret and private activity. As you were told -- it' your decision and only yours.

That is a decision only you can make, since it is your own body and your beliefs. It's going to be hard for you to stop since there is so much pleasure you receive from masturbation and hormones are raging through your body giving you spontaneous erections, which is all natural.
Maybe start out slowly cutting back,each day, week, month you keep track, just make sure no one else see it... Good Luck & take care
