What are your favorite Semi-Auto rifles? (Doesn't really matter if it's legal for civilian use, obviously)

I've liked everything I've heard about the M14, honestly. High power and accuracy.

I heard the M-14 was designed to be fully automatic but it had too much of a kick to it so they only use it on single shot, it was a decent gun but it highlighted how stupid the US army ordnance where in the 50's when you've got a m-14 up against an AK-47. I would have to go with the M1 garand

I am undecided yet. The SKS or the M1A1 carbine.

The M-14 was issued capable of fully automatic fire. It wasn't issued until Vietnam where is was replaced because it was too heavy. But personally I love the M-14, very accurate and the 7.62 NATO packs one hell of a punch. For semi-automatic only I would have to choose the SKS or M1 Garand

SKS easily. The M1 carbine sucked.

For a Japanese soldier it would take 5 AK rounds minimum. Damn fanatics.

You were ill-equipped :(
Your troops in Malesia had desert outfits unsuitable for jungles. You cannot run in shorts in a jungle, a million things can happen to your legs. But the Japanese were damn fanatical, in the end in China, they were throwing themselves under Soviet tanks with explosive-strapped vests. They were charging with katanas at MG emplacements and at tanks, they didn't hesitate to charge like that. A Soviet soldier would need to face the business end of a Comissar's pistol to charge at a tank without a AT weapon.

We had all our guns pointing to the sea and they came by air, at least we won the war. The good old commissars, if you don't shot this civilian I'll shoot you
