I think it would be really good to have like on someones profile their past username so it would make it easier to identify them. So basically somewhere on their profile they would have their old username posted for like 2 weeks after the change? I think its a good idea. Whats your opinion (especially admins)?

Mighty suggestion, stay active

If you weren't here or active when someone changed their username then thats your own fault, you can allways ask them..

I think it would be a great idea, like, it can automatically happen once someone changes their username.

Ugh, I agree not to agree.

Sure, its your responsibility to keep up, but what if for some reason you've been extremely busy with school, and haven't had any time to get your butt back online?

I agree, and it only takes a few days to get used to a new username, hardly anything to worry about.

Well I can see my past usernames but when I look at the profiles of other users why can't I see when they changed their names?

Aηdy

Because regular member's can't see other members' username history.

Well its hard to keep up with hundreds of people changing their name. Its not like I remember! And I feel like I am active! Just not as social as I used to be! So you cant say that I am not active because I am on here almost everyday! I think having peoples old username posted for a week after the change is a GREAT idea especially as the site gets larger! Ugh obviously im losing to somewhat feeble arguments...so any other pro or con opinions?

I stick to what I said, just ask them if you can't understand who they are by their posts.

i think this idea has merit. if it was to happen, it should only show a change of username for maybe 7 days, then taken off.

In my opinion we should just encourage people to keep their old usernames in their signatures or some other convenient space. I don't think it really need to be a special feature of the forum.

In fact that was recommended when we had the name change thread and before.

I think we should just make that staff thing apply to all members so you can just view the profile. It saves people from having to stay active just to find out who someone is (not all members want to be that active) and nobody will have to be responsible for having to edit their own signature and do it. It would just be automatic so there would be no worries.

Well now in fairness, it has always kind of been VT policy that name changes are not greatly encouraged. You know you join, you pick a name, and you should really stick with it. Like I have been here over 3 years, never changed my name.

But how and ever people do change and from my experience it has not been hard keeping up with who is who. Like the way staff can see what past usernames have been, has only been a new addition in the grand scheme of things.

It's only a name change, we've been ok for the last 3 1/2 years, it really isn't hard to remember a username, and most people put it in their sig, or if not you just ask them. This really is a complete waste of time.

>_<

That's why I keep my name in my sig, so people know who I am. Figured it makes life easier for people.
