How did you learn about puberty, sex, etc...?
It has always been an interesting subject to me. OF course we learned in school, but my mother wanted to make sure I knew everything I needed to know. I've read several books on the matter, and everytime a friend has a question about something they usually ask me. Someone once called me a "sexpert", haha.
But really, how did you learn? Did your parents talk to you, did you watch a video or learn in school?

My sister and mom gave me books and sent me puberty related links [online] and were free for questions.

I was in third grade when I checked out a book from the library, which was honestly a lot less awkward than a conversation with my mom would have been. Then in 5th grade, girls and boys were separated and talked to about puberty. They even gave us little kits, and the girl kit included a pad, a deodorant, and a packet of info. Oh lord. Then in 7th grade, our science class was required to do a sex ed course that was finished off with being forced to watch a video of A MOTHER GIVING BIRTH  Finally, high school is the world's best classroom.

You gonna laugh, but mom handed me her copy of "What's Happening to me?" from 1983 and said, any questions, just ask, I went though it and this book helped me to start understanding.

this was quite an awkward situation for me because my parents divorced when I was really young and I live with my dad. anyway, he had that talk with me when i was 8 and handed me a stack of books. he said I should read them and that he would answer any questions to the best of his ability, i never ask him anything though, i usually ask my older girl cousins or my dr when i see her. or i just find an answer online.

I don't know how I learned. It's just something I've know for as long as I can remember. I knew about periods for sure when I was 6, and I don't rememebr when I started masturbating, it had to be before I was 3.

I learned at school, the internet, and talking about it with friends.
At school, I've had a sex ed class every year, starting in 5th grade.
5th grade - Separate classes for boys and girls. They told us about getting periods and growing boobs, and starting to sweat. They gave us little packages with a pad, and panti liner, a tiny stick of deodorant, and a huge information booklet.
6th grade - Separate classes again. Basically repeated 5th grade classes, and then had a mixed class and talked about love and relationships. We all got a little kit.
7th grade - Separate and Mixed classes. Talked in more detail about puberty, and about talking to your parents. Went over how the reproductive system works. Saw ginormous pictures of penises on the projector.
8th grade - Mixes classes. All about how to have sex, STDs and protection.
9th grade - Mixed Classes. All about the moral aspects of sex, and when to know your ready. Also about what to expect in a healthy relationship.

Never had a sex ed class, and never discussed it with friends - all I did was study anatomy when I was 12/13. I kinda just new nearly everything already, don't ask me how, over time I read a few books that made certain aspects a bit clearer. And experimented with my body :P

Parents taught all of us here. But as nudists, we didn't have that many questions about the physical changes since we could see them happening. They also gave us some books once we started asking questions.

My mom has been telling me since I was like 8 or 9 she doesn't want me to forget anything. I have a 17 month old baby sister and I was in the delivery room when she was born. it was waaaay too cool to watch her being born and I got to hold her first. but I am a long way from wanting to have a baby, it didn't look like fun to me.

Puberty For Girls  Questions For Both Boys & Girls
Since this is a general question both can answer, I'm going to move it here for now. :)
However, boys that have been posting in here, this is a reminder to not post in Girl's Puberty. There is a "No Boy's Allowed" sign right on the door, so ya betta not do it again. Got it? Good. Now carry on with your bad selves. Don't make me get fiesty again.

My sister helped me a lot. I caught her masturbating once and after two days forcing her to tell me what she was doing she gave me a long talk explaining everything to me about human body, sexuality, masturbation, relationships. She also introduce me to nudism.

Evidently sex-ed isn't very comprehensive here in North Carolina, not that I find that surprising. Of course there is still some I learned in school, but a lot of it has been based on the internet (this site included), friends (masturbation and sexuality for the most part) and my own mother whose been good at letting me know what I've got ahead of me without prying much at all.

From other kids at school and the internet really. There was virtually no sex education at my school apart from a terrifying old video about child birth and a short awkward discussion about STDs and stuff which someone from outside the school came in for as all the teachers were too embarrassed and/or ignorant to do it themselves.
My parent never said anything to me although my sisters got a book like the one below.
You gonna laugh, but mom handed me her copy of "What's Happening to me?" from 1983 and said, any questions, just ask, I went though it and this book helped me to start understanding.

The internet, and figuring it out on my own. Except for half-day preschool type things that I don't count, I've been homeschooled up to this year. Mom wanted to talk to me when I had recently turned 12, and she asked me what I already knew about how babies were made. I told her in detail exactly how it worked and she said "That's it. So as long as you know they aren't made from kissing or holding hands, I'm done with you.". Never anything about periods, masturbation, STDs, oral sex, maybe one mention of abstinence, and she said to tell her when I thought I was going to have sex. Yeah right. This was also before I came out to her so I got the straight orientation. For like 2 years I thought you could only get pregnant if you had sex while on your period. But google is your friend and now I know lol. Now, she just assumes I know everything and talks to me like an adult, like she mentioned getting me on the pill before I go to college. (Not sure why.. girls can't impregnate me, DUH. I think I misheard her and she said the HIV shot. Not sure. LOL)
However, when I was 8 and first started puberty (mainly just breast buds) she got me an American Girl puberty book. Mostly about periods and bras.
When I have kids I'm going to tell them about sex as soon as they are at the right maturity level, like 8 or 9. I wouldn't want them to find out from friends or school, or be mislead about anything. I would want them to hear from mom first, as I wish I had.
