I am so nervous about my first exam. Do you prefer a female doctor? Do you have to tell him or her that you are a virgin? Does it hurt? Do you really have to spread your legs? Should I ask him about my hymen? What do they actually do to you on your first exam?

Don't be so nervous, you'll be fine. I personally prefer having a female doctor, but it doesn't really matter because the gynaecologist has seen it all, and they will be very professional wether or not they are a man or woman.

During your gyno visit, they will also give you a breast exam, to make sure everything's fine. He/she will make you take off your bra and panties, and give you a gown type thing. They'll make you lie down on a table, and there will be special places for your feet, then you spread your legs. They will check everything out on the outside, and will put their fingers, and something called a speculum, into your vagina. Then they'll send your fluids off to get tested.

If you relax your muscles, it won't be uncomfortable, but if you tense up it will be.

Remember to be honest to the doctor, and it will be fine :)

They are there to answer your questions, so ask about anything you want to know. Better to ask, in my opinion. Don't be worried about the questions being weird or awkward, they have heard it all before.

Does it hurt when your legs are spread and they put a speculum thing inside of you? What did if feel like for you? Did you feel akward? Do they show you everything and do you have to spread your legs? Do they actually put their finger inside their opening and spread everything apart? That sound kind of tough? I can only get one finger inside barely. How many do they put inside you. Sounds painful. Can they tell if you have had sex or not? I am still a virgin should I tell them?

Does it hurt when your legs are spread and they put a speculum thing inside of you? As I said, it's very uncomfortable if you're nervous and all your muscles are tense. If you are very relaxed, it's not that bad.

What did if feel like for you? Did you feel akward? Yeah, the first time it definitely felt awkward, some lady was sticking her hands in my vagina. There's nothing I can do about that though.

Do they show you everything and do you have to spread your legs? You have to put your feet in these little "stirrup" things, and spread your knees as far apart as possible, so they can see everything.

Do they actually put their finger inside their opening and spread everything apart? Yes they do. They push a little with their fingers to check the ovaries and fallopian tubes. It feels really weird, but it doesn't really hurt.

That sound kind of tough? I can only get one finger inside barely. How many do they put inside you. Sounds painful. My doctor does two fingers, just so that they can feel everything on a more flat surface, so it's easier to check. I think all doctors do two. It's not super painful, and if you tell them it hurts, they'll probably try just one.

How do I relax my muscles? What do you mean? I am still a virgin, will I bleed? Do they spread you lips apart and look inside your opening ugh? Did her fingers hurt? So they do not spread your legs? When a finger goes in what do you mean it feels really weird? The speculum thing scares me. What does it do? What does it feel like when it goes inside of you? Was two fingers painful for you? Maybe you are taller and deeper so it was not as bad for you? Why are asian women tighter? Did your hymen tear? Can they tell you are a virgin? Have you ever seen your hymen before? What is my hymen supposed to look like? How can I know my hymen is there?

Miri gave some very good answers. First question I have for you giggles2 is how old are you?

Under 18 the exam will not be much more than a visual inspection. I had my exams from my regular doctor knowing him for years made things more comfortable for me. Have had no speculum in me so far so have no experience of what its like. My doctor tells me to let my knees flop to the sides and relax.I am a virgin so it feels strange having a guy placing his fingers inside but it don't hurt.Than he spreads the vulva that's the opening to the vagina and has me cough 2 or three times that's to check for incontinence. Than I get dressed so just relax and don't get crazy the whole thing is not that bad.

Go to You Tube to find some gyn video that may help desensitize you.
