What exactly does it mean when someones account becomes "frozen?"

Frozen simply means they can't access the site for a certain time frame. Think of it as a temporary ban. It is either given by staff for breaking rules or upon request for special occasions like exams where the user needs to avoid VT.

Actually, you can access the website when you're frozen, browse forums, but your privileges on the website are limited, such as not being able to view profiles, post or enter the chat room.

When a member is frozen, it can mean a number of different things:

1. They (the user[s]) have accumulated too many infraction points and they have earned a 3 or 7 day freeze, also known as a temporary ban.
2. They have been frozen by a staff member for either seriously breaking rules, are here for the sole purpose of advertisement, or have done something serious enough to be banned but a senior staff member is not around at the time to ban them at that time.
3. They are under the age requirement to sign up at and have been frozen until they are of the age to sign up. This is usually done for about 12 months.
4. A senior staff member has frozen them for a set amount of time for an offense, (this could also be requested, on rare occasions).

Staff has legitimate reasons for the decisions they make, they don't just go around freezing/banning friendly and nice people for fun. If you were really concerned about why a consequence was put into place, PMing an admin is a good idea.

It's like being suspended from school versus being expelled. When you're suspended, you can't go there for say, a few days. that's like being frozen on here. Expelled means you can never go back. That's what banned means.
