View Full Version : Do I have BPD? (Bipolar, not Borderline)

I was wondering if I have Bipolar disorder, because I seem to show a lot of the symptoms. Sometimes, I'm unbelievably happy and hyper and I feel like I'm on top of the world - like nothing could hurt me. But other times, I feel hopeless, like I'm drowning in despair and depression. It cycles back and forth, but I'm usually depressed. The phases of energy, when they come, are just amazing. I find myself drinking Red Bull twice a day just to regain the highs. My eating habits have changed, I'm tired all of the time, friends have told me I look sad a lot. I even recently tried to kill myself, and indulge in SI (self-injury, usually cutting.) I don't know if I could be suffering from BPD- if anyone is willing to help?

First of all Welcome to VT, I'm Mike :D
You could be suffering from Bipolar disorder, but it sounds like you might have other issues going on here.
Why did you try to kill yourself? I think you need to go to a psychiatrist, he can tell you for sure if you have bipolar disorder.
He will also probably suggest therapy, it is a great way to get out what your feeling and if you have any previous issues a therapist can help address them.
Hang in there man we're here for you :)

I agree with Michael.
You could very well have bipolar, but help from a psychiatrist is strongly recommended.
They are there to help you so best to go and be honest with them. That way they can go about giving you options for support and treatment.

i dont think your bi-po, as you've pretty much answered your own question.
Your highs and lows are explained by your red bull, red bull is very high in caffine, and when it leaves your system, just with alot of other drugs, you can experiance a 'come down', which does leave you unhappy, so if ure drinking it twice a day, the amount un your system will be high.
you will be very tired if you have changed your eating habits aswell, not eating regulary or healthly, will do this too you
cut out the crap, start eating decently and im sure you will fin dyour feeling better

You know, we cannot diagnose online, especially something as complicated as Bi Polar disorder. But, a few facts might be helpful for you to keep in mind.
The first, is that Bi polar runs in families, it's genetic. So, unless some close relative(s) have it, then the chances of you having it are pretty slim.
The second is that BPD in teens is NOT characterized by the more familiar symptoms you hear about in adults (the mood swings from sadness to elation/'hyperness'). In teens, the symptom is agitation, irrationality, unreasonableness, and (this is the big one) a sense that the person is grossly over reacting, to the point where their reaction makes no sense at all, AND they are completely unreachable. They cannot control this, nor can anyone else.
Your abusing Red Bull for the caffeine, however, does sound like a problem, and could be related to the other particular symptoms you have. Lay off the Red Bull (and whatever else that's junky you're ingesting) and see if the symptoms don't go away.

There are signs of a genetic component though it is not a definite thing.
Best is to get checked out by a doc. That way you can get to the bottom of whatever is ailing you without a load of off the mark guesses
