I think that it'd be best if you saw your GP about it, if you want sleeping pills, they will prescribe the best ones for you depending on the situation. It may also help if you turn off any external light sources and any electrical devices, that way you mind is not occupied at the point of time in which you're meant to be sleeping. Make sure your room is also dark enough to the point in which it'll feel like night time even if it isn't, and soon your body clock will adjust.

I'm Bi-Polar so have similar sleeping problems. I use sleeping pills sometimes as a last resort. but like Sylvester said go see your family doctor and have him / her prescribe something for you.

While I do recommend the doctor first, Tylenol PM will work miracles (taken properly).

This may be insomnia, try to get yourself bored, then maybe you could just fall asleep. I have a friend that is also an all nighter, the only way to make him sleep early is to get him bored and stressed out then he will go to bed

To start off, I'd try the natural route: moderate exercise during the day (at least 60 minutes), eat healthy (fruits, not a lot of sugar), don't eat for a few hours before bed time (try to go to bed at 10 PM) and just keep doing that for a week.

You've messed up your sleep-cycle, and now getting good REM sleep is wonky from becoming almost nocturnal. Resetting it may be tough, but I would definitely recommend my previous advice.

There was also a study that you should not eat at least 12 hours before you want to wake up (if you want to be awake at 7 AM, don't eat anything after 7 PM [note: water is fine, nothing else]). Definitely try looking up other ways of resetting your sleep cycle. There may be psychological reasons behind your insomnia, but my guess is that you just stayed up late on the internet, playing games, or watching TV. If you're serious about improving your sleep, limit these activities on a daily basis and do more things outside that will tire your body. It's not only good for your health, but it'll make you feel better too.

As for taking medicine/seeing a doctor? I advise against it unless you've been following my advice for at least two weeks with no results. The doctor won't prescribe you anything until you try the healthy way, anyway.

Maybe your body isn't producing enough melatonin? ask your doctor if taking a melatonin suppliment before bed would help, or what other options there are.

I've tried melatonin. I found that it affected my dreams. they became much much more vivid.

That must mean you were sleeping better.
