Being Short

I recently stayed the night at my friend's house. (I'm 12, by the way) and we've both started puberty. And I just noticed, he had this HUGE growth spurt and now I'm all short. In fact, all of my friends had their growth spurt already. They always make mean jokes and say, "I guess you got the SHORT end of the stick, huh?"

I've developed anger issues because I am so frustrated with being short, and not being able to defend myself, and all of the bullying!

There was also this big, brawn kid who is ALREADY THROUGH PUBERTY. Think about this for a second. His face is covered in zits, he has the voice of a man, and he's six feet tall, and he hasn't been held back once. He always likes to pick me up by the legs or remind me of how short I am. I always get in a bad mood when he does this.

I try to shrug it off, but it bothers me so much that my friends have had their growth spurts and are stronger than me. I'm always the shortest in my class, and when we take school pictures I feel sad, because I have to sit in the front row with all the puny kids. It makes me feel so self conscious, and I'm just sick and tired of being short! I grew only an inch between this year and last.

My brother is the same height as me, and he's almost 3 years younger than me! And what's weird is I've still been developing puberty features such as hair and erections, and I've been gaining a lot of weight, and not on purpose either, so I'm short and fat. I try not to eat more than I should, but I still gain a lot! And even though I'm average weight now, my short stature makes me look obese.

Can somebody please tell me how to make this akwardness and sadness stop? I hate being treated differently because of my height.

I was kind of short when i was twelve but then i grew u will do the same and u will probably turn out taller than ur friends then u can male jokes out of them

That's what everyone tells me, but that's not going to happen any time soon. My band teacher also calls me short when I can't blow enough air into my instrument...>_>

for your height you should not worry out of all of my friends i am the shortest and possibly in my college group so don't worry about height you will possibly grow soon

for the person that you say is bullying you. you should tell a teacher at school and your parents so that the problem can be resolved and i know how you feel i had been bullied when i was at school.

dude dnt worry about it like serius my whole family is kinda short but im growing now and u shold see my class im in grade 7 and thers like really tall kids and super short kids so ya dont worry about it u wont stay that short forever :)

I was 5.7 feet when I was 13. I guess its just genetics. Maybe you will grow alot later. Puberty is different for everyone

bud dont worry. i went through the exact thing youre going through. i know it sucks now, but just let it go. you are who you are, youll grow. i only hit my "growth spurt" a year ago and im 16. so itll happen. I promise.

Don't worry about it, you'll grow eventually. If the bullying is affecting you- TELL SOMEONE. And remember, "good things come in small packages" as the saying goes.

How tall are you anyways? When i was 11 i hit puberty with a massive growth spurt and was the biggest guy, I finished growing at 12 and was the tallest and most built guy in my grade. Now im 18 and haven't grown an inch since then, I've put on weight but not gotten any taller. Im not upset, life's what you make of it, you can't force yourself to grow so don't be mad over something you can't change. Im 5'7" for anyone who wondering.

I'm short and I like it that way. I'm 5'3" and I love it because I like being short. But sadly, I'm skinny too. My mom is 5'0" and my dad is 6'4" and I'm 18 so it's obvious who I took after. Your height is by genes, activity, and sometimes by lifestyle. Your height is like your skin tone, unique, no other person on earth has it exactly like you do, cherish who you are. Don't doubt and don't worry, you'll grow in time.

You don't state your exact height, but for some comparison for you, I was under 5 feet until I was 14 and only 5'1 until I was 15.
I'm 5'5 now, and I gained four inches in 6 months!

Those kids who have gone through growth spurts already will finish puberty at a young age and most kids will eventually pass them up or catch up to them later on. The main growth spurt in boys occurs at 13/14 (where your annual height growth doubles for about a year or two) for most before a rapid decline in growth after it ends, however, not everyone has a growth spurt. Some kids grow slowly, but steadily all the way until they finish puberty. For example: I was 5'1 at your age and have gradually grown 2 inches for about four years, never really having a growth spurt. I am now close to 5'10 and my doctor predicts I'll reach 6' before I'm 18. If you really want to know how tall you'll be consult your doctor for a bone age test where he can give you an educated guess at what your final height will be, that's what I did anyways.

ya know it can actually be worse to be that huge kid..i was..i wasnt mean physically but i thrashed people i considered dumber than me. you are gaining weight as a precursor to puberty everyone does trust me i pay attention. and if you feel defenceless join a martial art i did it's amazing to grow up in doesnt matter what you are physically
