It is really not that hard to differentiate them.
Gay- Sexually attracted to the same-sex.
Gay curious- Curious about Homosexuality, curious to try it.
Straight- Sexually attracted to the opposite-sex.
Straight curious- Attracted to the opposite sex but interested in the same sex.
Bisexual- I guess attracted to both boys and girls.
Bi curious- interested in the same sex.

Stated above is great, il put in the proper terms for you and put the definitions for them :)
Heterosexual-straight, straight people are 'emotionally' atracted to the opposite sex.
Homosexual-gay/lesbian, homosexuals are emotionally atracted to the same sex. Homosexual males are sometimes more feminin, although being feminin does not make you gay, not does it mean that all gays are feminin.
Bisexual-Bi's, Bi's are emotionally atracted to both sex.
Okay now for the curious ones,
Being curious is often being sexually atracted, rather then being emotionally atracted. Meaning, Being emotionally atracted is feeling a string love/connecyion with the person, rather then being sexually atracted.
This is the difference between having sex, and making love.
Characteristics- there is often no way to tell the difference between gays, bis and straights. Though as I said before, gays CAN be more feminin, and lesbians could be more masculine. Though you can not judge/distinguish on this alone.
Sorry for it being so long, il stop now I'm rambling
Btw anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
