I'd totally say watching porn is the way to bring the topic up. That's how I started with my best friend, after school watching porn together. That lead to jacking off, and then finally we had a sleep over and jacked each other off. And we still do have fun together.

Sometimes it's better to not ask at all, but to hint it. I have had a varied amount of sexual experiences with the same gender and all have been where I hint that I'm open to the idea with the things I do. Focus on what you think he would like you to do or how he usually acts, if he acts sexual with you, do it back. You could take a new turn on your friendship and act sexual every now and then, but if he isn't into that right then just tone it down, whilst still being flirtacious, this way there's no risk of yours and his relationship turning sour.

Also, as time goes on throughout the time you spend with each other, say, a sleepover, and your continually being sexual, if you feel it's heating up/getting to be more than before, grow with that feeling and morph how you act with him throughout the night in more sexual ways.
