Firstly, anyone that honestly believes a hairstyle is an indication of one's sexuality is daft as all get out. That really is so absurd and immature, but I digress...
Spiked hair is really cute. If it's shorter you could work the whole messy look, where you virtually do nothing to it. :P
You shouldn't feel forced to change your hairstyle because of some ignorant bullies, though.
