Singapore's transport system is like this, we have a network of trains around the country called MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) and LRT (Light Rapid Transit). The MRT is the one that covers the country and the LRT branches out from the MRT system. Then of course, we have other public transport vehicles, such as buses and taxis. Now, everyone in the country has this thing called an EZ-Link card, it's just a card that can be topped up with cash, it's used to pay the fares of Buses and MRTs, we just have to tap in and tap out of the vehicle. Taxis are kind of expensive around singapore, ever since the companies increase prices. It costs SG$3.20 just to step in there and $0.20 for every 100 meters. So what about transport in other countries?

here where i live, there is a very large metro system, but it gets overcrowded every morning and night to the point where it is unridable. lots of people also don't pay their fares, and there is a full security check before you get into a station.

That's only for the comfort cabs though. Others are differently priced, and compared to other places it's actually not bad (especially given the exchange rate.)
Uh, well you basically said everything about where I live, so I'll just leave this here.

we have trains that go all around Scotland and then we have the bigger trains that go down to London and stuff, there is the subway in Glasgow (a loop around the centre of the city) and they have been trying for years to get a tram system in Edinburgh, I think it is finally getting somewhere... in my town we have quite a few train stations so we can use that, or busses, we have busses that go all over the town, or taxi's but they can generally be a lot more expensive. Bus is definitely the easiest

In the Bay Area, no matter what time of day or day of the year, you can reach almost all the major cities. We have a bus system in every county. VTA in the San Jose Area, SFMTA in San Francisco, samTrans in between, and AC Transit in the East Bay are the major ones and all of them have at least one 24/7 bus line.
As far as rail, San Francisco has it's own subway system, and we have BART which is a hybrid metro system serving the greater Bay Area. Caltrain goes from San Francisco to South San Jose, and at San Jose the National Rail system has 2 lines going through it.
We also have a transit pass that works on almost all the systems in the Bay Area so it's really easy to get around on Public Transit
