View Full Version : How does being Bi work?

So I am gay and was wondering what it's like to be bi? I'm obviously not but I have felt like I needed a girlfriend before, mostly from society expecting it of me since nobody knows I'm gay. So could someone explain to me how you can like two sexes at once? I noticed people on this site when giving percents tend to go back and forth depending on which gender they are dating at the time.
Also before you read any of this just try to take it in a curious light because I'm not trying to offend anyone I just don't know how it works and am trying to understand.

It's not rocket science. Think of how you look at boys, and how straights look at girls. It's just the two combined. Like, I find girls and guys hot. I have felt emotionally for both, but it hurts more with girls.

I know that I'm bi, and it's simply a question [for me] of: how deeply involved could I get with someone of a particular gender? Would I feel comfortable sleeping in the same bed as female? Would I feel comfortable entrusting deep secrets to a male? Could I feasibly be intimate with someone of either gender? The answer to these is yes, for me. I realized a while ago, that if the perfect guy came along, I could fall in love just as easily as I could with a girl. Thus, my options are now Bi!

The bi people aren't really bi. they present themselves as straight or bi, but privately choose to be gay. That's why guys with girl friends or wives get caught with other guys = they made a decision to be gay for some people and those people only know that guy as gay. In his straight life, people only know him as straight. Eventually worlds collide, so they settle for the Bi label even thought they are straight, but get caught in a perverted act of some sort. Makes quite a mess.

Some people love cake.
Some people love ice cream.
Some people love both.
That's what being bi is like.

Where in the world did you get that idea from? I assume that comes from a bad experience, for which I apologize!

Don't get me wrong, I don't think bi's are bad. I think they are part of a progression. a kid is being raised as a straight boy, he has some gay thoughts he struggles with, feels wrong, decides to come out, but doesn't want to deal with being gay, so he says he's bi. Then he can say he's mostly into girls, then equally both sexes, then some day, he's gay.
not a lot of old bi people out there, let's say 60 yrs old. they may call themselves bi, but they're living either a straight or gay life at some point. There has even been some famous gay people who were straight, then bi, now gay.
no need to apologize. i just see bi as a transitional thing leading to something else. it's not bad
For example, elton john from wiki:
In the late 1960s, John was engaged to be married to his first lover, secretary Linda Woodrow, He married German recording engineer Renate Blauel on 14 February 1984, in Darling Point, Sydney, with speculation that the marriage was a cover for his homosexuality. John had come out as bisexual in a 1976 interview with Rolling Stone,[116][117] but after his divorce from Blauel in 1988 he told the magazine that he was "comfortable" being gay.[118]

1. You're highly mistaken. Just because someone settles down with either sex, it doesn't make then any less bisexual.
2. Not ALL bi people are just gay people "in disguise". It's not even that common of an occurance.
3. If you're gay, you're gay. If you're bi, you're bi. You can use any label you want, but you are what you are. Some people really ARE bisexual.

1. it absolutely makes them not bi sexual if they are married.
2. All? Pretty much.
3. I think some people are bi sexual too, but it's temporary.

Ok, so I'm guessing you think that bisexual means polygamy, right? Well, no. Not at all.
Bisexuality just means the CAPABILITY to love either gender, just like a straight person only has the capability to love the opposite gender, and a gay person has the capability to love the same gender. It's not anymore complicated then that.

For me, it's not really flip flopping, at least not at the current moment. I've always been more attracted to guys, but I still like girls. I'm currently gathering up the courage to ask my guy friend out, but it's tough when I also have crushes on girls.

Just because you marry someone of the same gender doesn't make a bi person gay, nor does marrying someone of the opposite gender make them straight. It doesn't mean they were secretly gay or only curious. It simply means that the person they chose to spend their life with happens to be the gender that they are. It doesn't erase our capability to be attracted to both men and women. Making a choice in life partner does not mean choosing a sexuality.
Otherwise... how it works? The same way you feel about guys, bi people feel about men and women. It's that simple. We have feelings for them, we experience sexual attraction to them... it just happens to apply to both genders rather than one.

This is well said. I know a bi guy who was in straight marriage, but he got divorced, and when gay marriage was legalized in his state, he got married to another guy. Both marriages were for love.

Nope. Not correct in any way, shape, or form.
