Leaving my family behind me
not know what lay ahead
Waving goodbye as I left them in tears
Remembering all we said

I look to the sky
I offer my prayers
I ask Him for guidence and strength

But the simple beliefs of this simple lay in His hands
and on my head.

I gave them my soul
I gave them my strength
I gave everything I had!

But they couldn't break my spirit
And my dignity fought back.
Just fight back!

Can you hear me?
can you see?
Don't you hear?
Can't you see me?

We were moving the tunnel
shifting the earth
It was then that it happened.

Now that the dust had cleared and settled.
No one knew how many had died.
Broken men lay everywhere. Good men lost their lives.
I don't think they knew what for.

Can you hear me?
Can you see?
Don't you hear me?
Can you breath?

I can hear the cry of my chikdren
I can see the tears in their eyes
And I'll always remember the night
As they waved goodbye to their father.

I asked the questions in my head
Will I ever see them again?
Will I ever go back again?
Will I ever see her face again?

But I will always remember the night
As they waved goodbye to their father.

We followed the rail
We slept under the stars
We came from the North
We came fro mthe South

With this sweat in our eyes
we worked hard like the devil for our pay.

Now we're driving the last spike
And forever will it be remembered
And I can hear the cry of my children
I can see the tears in their eyes

I will always remember the night
As they waved goodbye to their father.

Can you hear me?
Can you see?
Don't you hear me?
Can't you see me?!
