The Dark and The Dagger
I guess it wasn't a dagger,
It was just a knife
That I always used to cut away
My pain, my fear, my strife.
It once was clean and perfect,
Not a stain upon the blade,
But now it's caked in dried-up blood,
A stain that I once made.
The darkness that consumed me
Through all those years of pain
I often fondly called it
The never-ending rain.
The rain that fell in torrents
Upon my bloodstained arms,
The rain that never gave up,
The rain of my self-harms.
I let it overcome me,
I drowned myself in rain,
At least I could feel something,
Even if it's just pain.
But now I'm standing up,
I've chased my demons away,
And I'll never pick that dagger up,
Never, not another day.
