I was wondering if I wanted to have a username of an inactive user on the forum would I be able to take it? There's a username that I might want that was created and was last active in 2011 with no posts. Would I be able to take the name?

I cannot say for sure whether you can or can't have it nor give it to you. For that, please PM ImCoolBeans :)

Umm, wouldn't this cause problems if the user were to return? It's happened before when people go inactive and come back. It would basically be denying the user access to their account unless they E-mailed and admin only to find out they're being forced to change their username.

Multiple users have quit and won't come back. They had simply lost interest in the site. Though that might not be the case for this person if they decide to return.

Exactly this. I could understand if it were a user like myself who is over age already. If I disappear for two years, then yeah, take my username. Or even someone who was banned. But not some random person who has potential to return.

There is some truth to this. However, there is also a lot of truth to what Origami said. It is true that users have lost interest in the site and never come back, but there are also users who have left and come back. It may or may not be the case for this particular name, but we have no way to know.
I see it both ways and stuff, but imagine if you left the site for 2 years or something and someone was granted your name, and then you wanted to come back, but had no way to log in.
HOWEVER, that being said - I think this case is a little bit different since the user has no posts and stuff. But yeah, PM ImCoolBeans for sure.

The thing is they haven't posted EVER and I dont think they came on since they made the account in January 2011.

In my opinion, a username should be eligible for forfeit if...
•The user has been inactive for a substantial period of time and at least one of the following;
-Has 0 posts.
-Is over the age of 19.
-Was not a former member of the senior staff.
•Or the user has been banned for quite a while.

Forgot to mention the name I want is Origami. ;)

Personally, I think that you can choose a different name, as there isn't a real reason to why you have to change it, and you've written in a thread you want ideas. I'm sure you could think of another username.
Wonder.

Put a period at the end. That's what I did. If you think that'd be stupid with what you want, put some numbers, another word, underscores, etc.

There ya go. Say the name "Love" is taken. What about "Love2" or "Love2121" or something like that?
If the original screen name is banned, it could lead to confusion (in my opinion) if it starts posting again, even if it is someone else. Now, if that original person hasn't posted or even logged in to the site in over several months, then I can see a "forfeit clause" coming into effect.

Or you could contact the user through anything on their profile. It might make for an awkward conversation, but a chance not taken is a chance missed.

some people store contact info on there profile e.g. skype, email, etc. So maybe that is what Thomas meant.
