just an idea, we should be able to quote posts in groups, it should bring activity up in the group

How will being able to quote encourage activity in a group?

Personally, I forget about discussions in groups. Having the notification could help.

It sounds like a good idea, but I think people prefer posting on ordinary threads rather than in group discussions, I mean they tend to fizzle out pretty quickly

but if you could quote people it could keep the conversation flowing as you never know if some one has replyed to you and no one checks so no one would have replyed

If it's possible, this would be nice.

I don't go to groups much anyways, but sure sounds nice.

You know, I don't hate this. But I just don't know if it'd really be good or not. As far as I'm concerned, those discussions aren't supposed to be treated as threads. Before I'm yelled at for this, lemme just say that's my opinion, and maybe the are supposed to be. But I think if you wanna have a long conversation about something, it could be in a thread or something else.
I don't necessarily think this will help the group activity because you'll only get a quote notification if someone quotes you, in which you'd have to post in first, which seems to be the 'issue' in the first place if you get what I'm saying.
Again, I don't necessarily think this is a bad idea, I just don't know if it's what we need on VT.

To be honest, if we don't want to have conversations in the groups (some people have said that. Correct me if I'm wrong), why have them in the first place? At this point, they just seem like decoration for our profiles. There's no use for them if we don't have consistent discussion.
I say that we should at least attempt to make conversation and discussion in the groups more frequent, or there really isn't a point in having them on the site. And if a quoting feature is our only option, then so be it.

I think it would encourage more group use. I mean social groups usually start up and then die because people loose interest and its quite a shame.
Maybe having a quote button and quote notification may help people use groups and discuss within groups more often.

most groups have old posts from then new members, but who will know if someone replys to you and I certainly are to lazy to check especially when people are members of so many groups

Social groups for a help site, imo, aren't really that important. They're just for fun.

If you can quote, it would still be useless. Besides, this is a help site, it just so happens to have other forums, and adding loads of plugins that do pointless operations such as quotes in social groups could slow the site down. It's just easier to make a thread rather than a conversation in a group. Threads always have a place to fit and you can use the more extensive editor, such as quoting others to type there. The conversations in social groups are more IM-oriented rather than the forums which allow videos and pictures.

Actually, this is a help site. That's all it is. That's all it ever will be.
Look at most denied suggestion threads, the reason staff denied them was because "VT is a help site."
Quoting the front page...
teenagers that want advice and support and even teens that just want to vent about life.
VirtualTeen.org began as a project to help mentally ill teens. It has since expanded to include many other topics. The site's mission is to provide teens with a network of peer support. Any teen can find help for anything at Virtual Teen.

What is this site then? Yes, it's a site for teens to connect and talk and stuff, but the main focus of the site is to help teens who need it. That always has and will be the point of VT, otherwise it isn't VT anymore. I'm honestly curious though what you would consider the site though.
@ Josh - We don't deny suggestions just because VT is a help site. I'm not saying that doesn't play a role, but it's not the sole reason.
I never said this was a bad suggestion, and if I did, someone please let me know. All I personally said was I don't think this is necessary, and a huge conversation would be better off on the forums or elsewhere.

Sorry, didn't specify as I should. Meant that more for the overly obvious "turn VT into Facebook /Twitter" type suggestions that pop up. xD

To be honest I see no legitimate reason why this shouldn't be added. I mean yea, social groups aren't used too often, but as mentioned, maybe this would boost their popularity a little.
No extra plugins or mods would need to be downloaded - as far as I know it's simply a checkbox to tick in the AdminCP to allow codes :P

Nope, it's not a vB feature. It needs to be added with a mod.

My mistake then. I looked on a newer vB version and it's there. ahh, vB 3.8x... :P
Should this be added, there is a mod for it (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=204052), but who knows if it'll work right.

just thought I would bump this:D I really believe in this suggestion as it would give a much needed boost to groups, as after all most established members are members of so many groups they cant regularly go through and cheek for replies, and most dont at all.

Seeing as this would in fact require a third party mod to be installed, I'm not too sure it's a good idea. Installing any mod means the forum may be less secure, and there may be a way to bypass our security measures installed.

What process?
Considering it's a plugin (which has the potential to slow the site) that's not a necessity, it seems unlikely it will be implemented, and that we have threads that can do the exact same function.

Even with that mod installed there's no feature I can see that would give you a quote notification. All it would add is a quote feature in the groups.

This. If that's the case (and I'm guessing it is) then I think it'd be just as good to copy/paste what someone said and put "" around it.
